How would public run SABC?

Could work. They are a public broadcaster, and some people do pay TV licences.
How about creating a website where you can log into with your TV license number, and then get an opportunity to vote on or select programming for the next month / quarter / etc. The programming with the most votes, are shown, and votes would also provide an instant way of telling which genre of shows are popular by the viewing public.

People might actually start to watch SABC for more than the news and weather.

I am just curious - would this be the same public that control the current government and 'allow' the previous president to be removed, the health ministry to function the way it does, the communication ministry to operate as it does, the police not to function the way it is suppose to do, the Scorpions to be disbanded, etc, etc, etc.

I don't know - seems like much of a muchness to me.

SABC

I have to agree with VanZan. How would we as viewer be sure that they do talate the votes fairly for what WE want to watch?

Frankly it's got nothing to do with what you want to watch.
It wat they want to feed you. Think of the licence fee as being just another kind of tax.

This is where I go back to my conspiracy theory #25 ; the government see the SABC as a tool more as an form of "entertaining" the masses, they like to indoctrinate their beliefs (the apartheid government did it, as does the ANC), same reason why our internet prices are so mammoth, they dont want people to have access to the true "state of the nation" nor to a more independent view of things, they dont want people to reason for themselves, just to agree with them(the ANC). In a country where information is power, we the citizen's of South Africa find our self way way way too underpowered.

Yes it should be. And it should be controlled in a public forum with polls. I honestly think a specialised system designed for this kinda thing would work.

How many people with a TV have access to internet? What other practical and cost effective system would work? In another country maybe but I am very skeptical about SA.

The internet is only one medium. "Voting" papers could be distributed from anywhere, and handed in at one central location. I don't think that the voting part itself would be a problem. Getting impartial people to take the results and act on it, would be.

If you could take the politics out of the SABC, it would begin to function "normally". If the TV licences was demolished, it would be even better.

If you really care about whats on TV.. you can take your lazy ass to the local post office.. where there will be public poll machines :D

I had kinda thought about this but to manage the government.. but the SABC will do as well.

Basically a system would need to be rolled out.. where people can login with their ID numbers and password.

There should be a voting and discussion area. The main pros and cons of each issue needs to be listed in clear.. easy to read and understand terms.

Never mind SABC who wrote this article?

Whoever wrote this article clearly needs to go back to school and learn sentence construction. Not only is the English language being trashed by people on TV. It is now being destroyed by people who clearly didn't pass English.

Hey stop worrying about who owns SABC, it simply is the government of the day. The Nats used it for its own propaganda and now the ANC is doing the same. As far as content it isn't too bad, stop comparing it to pay TV channels, has anyone seen BBC or for that matter some of the American channels, boy oh boy they give the SABC a good run for their money.
