How your mobile contract is nailing you

I got myself a Flexi contract (aka Topup) and it suits me much better than a regular contract would. I actually get to spend most of the money I pay for.

If you are on top-up, why not go on pre-paid and simply load your airtime and data each month yourself?
 
Im moving to prepaid, Nedbank has a recurring prepaid facility, how cool is that
 
I don't agree with the subsidised handset working out at a discount. The Carriers nail Consumers when it comes to phone prices, often charging 30% over and above the cash price from other retailers.

As for SMS's - the Carriers can well and truly shove that and offer larger data bundles.

you get sin only deals from all the operator's right? and yes I am on contract that I do not use any of, simply to pay off my phone.

Orange, this is how you get into SA. offer us a Phone only contract.
 
Interesting to note that some carriers' contracts with top-up (hardcapped) accounts is a bit more expensive than an equivalent (uncapped) contract without top-up.



Just being curious, how many top-up contracts are in use vs normal (uncapped) contracts?

When you sell on credit the risk is greater, Orange will have to then inflate the price to cover it
 
I have 7 contracts out, and each time I've needed a handset I've found a Cell C contract which was a really good deal to tempt me to stay - often it's an extra few gigs of data that do the trick. My MTN contracts turned out to be a curse though - nailing me for nearly R2 a minute!

They do not need to inflate the cash prices. The risk of default should be included in the interest they charge if the device is offered on credit.

If you look at the network stats, you see the non-top-up accounts tend to overspend the basic amount more than the top-up, so they are more profitable for the operator

Erm... FNB?

Iphone 6 = R469/month.
Ebucks back = 4690 ebucks

Not a bad deal in my opinion...
