Hi all,

I'm not sure if this a noob question but i would really appreciate some assistance with the below,

On the switch is port 49 and 50 for up link, i plugged in a network cable in port 49 then plugged that into a other hp switch for Up link, (Same Make) when plugging in the computer system into the second switch it fails to connect to the network, do i need to configure those up link ports??

Previous older HP switches i never had this issue and up link just worked fine

We have these exact same switches ay my school, and they are pretty much plug and play out the box. Unless you have VLAN's set up on your network, there should be no issues. Your client PC should connect on Ports 1-48, while the link between the switches should be on Ports 49-52 (Ethernet or Fibre) so that you can make use of the gigabit speeds. Don't plug the uplink from switch 1 into anything but Port 49 or 50 on switch 2, otherwise you'll be limited to 100Mb/s speeds.

Also, silly thing but make sure your cables are also up to scratch. Gigabit networking is less forgiving on cable issues than 100 meg Ethernet.

All managed switches should/must be setup. If you don't set them up why buy a managed switch in the first place?

If your first switch has been configured with vlans you will need to setup your second switch as well with the vlans etc
