Anyone know where I can get the best price for the HP 311? Am looking for a decent new netbook but don't have a helluva lot to spend.

What do you need in a netbook? The HP 311 is great for the nVidia Ion that it provides for a relatively low price. Otherwise, the specs are pretty standard. The HP 210 Looks like a nice little machine.

They were going for 2500 at Doin wired on a special a little while ago...

Damn. They're good netbooks. I got a refurb model for a friend of mine. But I don't really see them for sale, I'll look around.

If you search Google South African pages for Mini 311c, you will see a couple of people selling it for about R4000. Goes under the name of Compaq Mini 311c or Hp Mini 311c.

Basically office apps like word, excel, browsing and some video playback. Will be doing a lot of typing so the trackpad and keyboard has to be a decent quality. HP210 does look quite nice but would probably need closer to 3k.

R3999 @ Dion Wired... That's about as close as you'll get to R3000 for a netbook with specs like that.

On the other hand, if you're going to be doing a lot of typing, I'd say go for a notebook. The full-size keyboard and decent-sized screen will suit your needs better.

I have a 15.4" Dell Studio 1537, 11.6" Compaq Mini 311 and 8.9" Acer Aspire One. Of them, the Dell is the best for longer-term work, the 311 works the best as a portable work device, and the Aspire One works great as an anywhere device.

Yeah for a lot of typing get a 13" laptop.

Keep an eye on the 2nd hand market to. Picked up a 1 month old Lenovo s10e for R2k.
