HP DV6000 Laptop Problem

your interpretation may be incorrect kv

Yeah seems I did mis-read that then.

Anyhow I checked my product number against the list and it's not there! Maybe that explains why mine is still working without issues.

I will not be buying an HP from all the problems i hear about them.

On Monday my brothers HP decided to start with the problems, if you turn it on the screen becomes lit but no display but the vga out works. Eventually after stripping the things, checking the boards, cables etc i read an article about a known problem from HP and do a bios update using the external VGA and bobs my uncle the laptop is functioning again! IT apparently has something to do with the fan algorithm being incorrect and thus overheating the graphics.

yes d3x!. Theres also a write-up and videos on fixing the dry joints created between the MD and Graphics Chip.

My model is also not listed. Gonna email them now and check what they say. It has all the symptoms after-all.

If your laptop is outside of the extended warranty period they won't cover it. If the part number is not on the list then likewise. When was yours originally purchased?

Yeah it sucks, but hey, they say it is just the Pavilion models that are affected, the business ones seem to be good. Not sure I will buy another HP though.

it was purchased around april, may 2008. Mine is a Pavillion dv6755ee. I will put up a fight to understand why my model is not covered. if all else fails I will attempt the blowtorch repair on the card as a last resort.

Okay, then it's definitely worth a shot with them as it is within the 2 years. Hope they come to the party for you.

spoke to HP again. different guy. have to use letmerpair in midrand to diagnos the problem. R200 quote rejection fee plus I gotta drop it off.

when you book the laptop in at letmerepair make sure they check for scratches, cracks etc - we had an incident a while back where the cracked the bottom panel and insisted it was booked in as such.

Yes, heard some dodge stories about them. Couple of threads on here too....

ok will do. thx for the heads up. I also spoke to Axiz. Very friendly tech gave me some advice. Gonna try a recovery again tonight to confirm the if the OS is ok.

Ok, letmerepair just sent me a quote. It's the HDD. gonna pay them the rejection fee of R200, replace HDD myself and reload software from recovery discs.

They wanna charge me R1100 for HDD, Labour incl. VAT.

I need a 250GB HDD SATA 2.5". HugePC has them for R400 but I think the 320GB may be cheaper. Any specials going on at the moment?

do I need to watch out for any other specs? The 250GB I am getting is a Seagate 5400rpm.
