Hi

About 2 weeks ago my laptop, on start-up gives me a blue warning screen. The screen says a hardware device was recently added or removed or something to that effect and I should replace the hardware and reboot. No hardware changes were made!

It also states I can press F8 and boot up in safe mode. I press F8 and no Safe Made option is available

It also has a repair option but when that starts the laptop just shuts down again. Any ideas what could be wrong?

What is the BSOD error? The part that you mention is on all BSODS, there should be number in the format XxXXXXXXXX (XxXXXXXXXX, XxXXXXXXXX, XxXXXXXXXX, XxXXXXXXXX) and an error. Post that....

Hi Conrad, I will check the error again when I get home and post it. thanks

Mine is still plodding along merrily, although I am awaiting the day when the well documented problems finally drag it down

What OS are you running? About a month ago my video drivers somehow got corrupted, I thought it was the display adapter on the way out, but I managed to get it sorted by re-installing Win7 and the correct drivers, which it is very fussy about which ones work properly under Windows 7.

purchased it with XP and was running Win7 for a few months. then the temp license expired and it displayed the pirate software stuff all the time.

ok the number is 0x00000050 (0x8C800000, 0x00000000, 0x82C58B33, 0x00000000)

I feel your pain. My DV6000 laptop died 2 weeks after the warranty expired.
It was that well documented faulty motherboard problem and they expect me to pay for repair.

Now its as dead as disco.

I hate HP for releasing such faulty $%#$%#$%

this could be a hard drive failure. Any idea on prices. i think i have a 250GB installed.

You going to have to see if you can start in safe mode.... Push F8 when it says starting windows, just after the post - push repeatedly.
Fairly sure it is not a faulty hard drive.

did that and got to advanced options. tried safe mode and also tried to restore to previous working state. no luck.

By VGA you mean lo rez right? tried that and safe mode and it did not start up

tried to boot from disk and failed. replaced RAM-still no luck. quick test on HDD passed. gona run complete test tonite. i hope its the HDD. R400 for a replacement.

What did you do with yours?

well I need to send HP my serial number and they will check if I qualify. thing is I might be out of the 24 month waranty period. BUT...the problem with the wireless started in July 2009 and I have an email stating such to a supplier not HP itself. Also the HP site does not state when the enhancement programme was published. they also have a battery pack replacement programme. i will email them tonight when i get home.

I don't believe it matters when the enhancement program was published, I read it as being as an additional 24 months from when your initial warranty expired, i.e. 36 months after purchase date. They were initially released in 2006 so there are a bunch of them out there already which are not covered.

Edit: How freeking annoying is that green survey pop-up on their site!

NOTE: This service enhancement program is available in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa for 24 months after the start of your original standard limited warranty for issues listed below; otherwise your current standard limited warranty applies. Customers who already have a 24 month or longer warranty period will be covered under their existing standard HP Limited Warranty.

your interpretation may be incorrect kv
