So my brother came to me and told me his laptop was very hot - so I told him to get speedfan

What are all the other temps, and they're not clearly labelled?
Cores or threads or something? So, CPU?

If you are brave enough, strip it, clean out the dust from the heatsinks, clean off old thermal paste, and apply some new stuff.

I have an old HP 550, and when I cared about it (back when it was my primary), I stripped it and did that. It really needed it every 6 months or so. I really abused the old thing.

Saying that, I never read instructions, so I bent the keyboard. I also ended up with some spare screws. I must also say that the old HP's seemed not to be designed to be taken apart and cleaned - so it's an absolute mission. To get to the heatsinks in my old one, I had to take the mobo out.

I redid my 7 year old acer and replaced the paste on the CPU and GPU. Fans barely spin now at all.

If you dont have experience taking apart a laptop do not attempt this. These laptops are not meant to be taken apart by amateurs because its so very easy to snap or damage those ribbon cables.

I always download service manual and do step by step. Otherwise I am puting screws in the wrong place and have to redo the job.

Other resources are available, also YouTube tutorials. Search for "dismantle" or "taking apart", "removing heatsink" together with your model number.

BTW, I noticed a high CPU utilisation on two cores. If it is the same when idle, then there is also software problem.

Why are there so many temperatures though?
And temp 4 at 0?

1. Had been answered already.
2. It might be unused temp sensor or even extra (missing) fan speed. These are standard ACPI sensor inputs on the chipset. You don't really know a purpose, only vendor supplied utility will give you meanful information, generic one is not able to do.
