I have had this printer for years. It still works well.
However, now it can’t work on an Apple Mac or windows 10 machine because there are no drivers.

I googled and tried some suggestions on the web. But nothings working.
The Apple Mac recommendations to too complex for my brain.

Any ideas?

Worst case, I am going to have to dedicate an old laptop to win XP to keep this printer going.

No support since Win7. Someone suggested running XP in virtual machine, but no one reporting of success. Having a MAC adds complexity, as virtual machine would have to support sharing a printer.

Printer has a standard DB-25 connector which looks like a standard parallel port, but it won't work with PC parallel ports, don't waste your time.

I am sorry, the worst case scenario...

What if I ran a small pc with Ubuntu 16.04 and then shared the printer over the wifi with my win 10 laptop and MacBook.

Wonder if that would work?

Yes. Sharing on XP is problematic due to the SMBv1, the latest Win10 has it disabled by default, so Linux looks a better solution (assuming it supports this printer).

I bought a raspberry pi kit today.
Setup raspian
Configured CUPS, foo2zjs

And then started hacking away at the configuration of the printer.

Happy to say that it worked.
Laserjet 1000 is fully operational.
Shared on home network.

Any device can print to it.

Neat solution. Well done.

I also have an antique HP LaserJet at the office. Have just logged in remotely and see it's a 1020. It works perfectly in Win10. Have you tried your printer with the HP LaserJet 1020 driver included standard in Win10?

It won't work. LaserJet 1020 is a standard USB printer, LaserJet 1000 is not.

The 1020s are work horses - our office ones are finally starting to pack up.
Any good suggestions of a new model mono lazer workhorse, that works with generic toners?

I run an ancient B&W Laserjet 6P which has been off the market for many years. I'm down to the last toner cartridge and no printer dealers in Gauteng can tell me where I could find another as this printer is npw on the "dead" list?? This laser is a workhorse bar none gor churning out invoices and statements. Hate to have to give up on it.

Thanks for Partserve link. Great printers there at great prices!! Will definitely look to buy another laser printer from them once this last toner for my Laserjet 6P workhorse runs out and there is no other toner for it in sight in Gauteng.
