Just bough an N54L HP for my brother so want to setup for him tonight.

I have a Windows DVD - but how do I install to the system without DVD ROM?
Is there an easy way to get Windows onto a USB flash so I can boot from it?
Maybe a Windows way - without download other software?

The first link is only for downloading as ISO - and not making from the DVD I already have, I think?

The second would work

Thanks

The two application links I posted is 100% in line with this link:

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/a/install-windows-7-usb.htm

1. Create the DVD ISO with the second link
2. Create the bootable USB (you can also use this tool http://rufus.akeo.ie/)

Here is a whole list:

another suggestion is :
I have another BEST and easy way to make USB bootable Windows 7…….
Nothing to do…..
Step 1: Explore your Windows 7 DVD or ISO File( in case of ISO file just mount is using any utility like Nero or PowerISO…even u can use trial version of these)
Step 2: Now copy all files including Hindden files and paste it on your formatted 4 GB( or more ) pendrive
Step 3: Restart your PC and go to BIOS and select USB as a first boot device then save and quit
Step 4: Your PC will boot with USB and now you can install or repair your Windows 7 faster than any DVD installation …… enjoy……
I have installed this way….. :-)

Built in windows tool called diskpart.

Open an elevated Command Prompt and type DISKPART.
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK (select your USB here)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
SELECT PARTITION 1
ACTIVE
FORMAT FS=FAT32 quick
ASSIGN
EXIT

Extract the ISO(I use 7zip) to the usb and it should work.

I don't see how this would work without making the USB bootable.

As Fulcrum29 has suggested use the Microsoft tool as in his first link, easy as lifting a finger. You choose DVD as the Source, choose the USB drive and click next! So easy, click click :D

For all USB preparation, including more difficult tasks like Windows XP installation and multiboot RMPrepUSB

I did the easy way - popped off the top and connected a DVD ROM temporarily to install

Lol, you could have just used the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool to create a usb stick with one or two clicks instead of installing a optical drive.

This is the only reason why I have an external USB DVD drive...

At least I have an entire system builder library stored on my trusted CloneZilla server with easy USB Flash creation.
