Hi guys,

I barely know Linux, so to all the veterans and geniuses out there, we have the above mentioned PC at the office and we want to load / run a web server client on it. ( Hope I said that correctly ).

We've tried Ubuntu and Debian but they give errors for some reason. They install, but when the PC reboots it bombs out or something.

If I may ask, what would be the best distro to load onto said PC for a web server. For this specific make and model.

If you need any more information please let me know.

Thanking you in advance.

If you are using RAID, then this is the issue, as Ubuntu, at least, do not have drivers for the RAID controller, so you need to run the onboard Raid controller in ACHI mode (BIOS setting).

My technical manager will implement in this week or maybe early next week. I'll keep you okes updated.

Easy enough to install an OS on these, but just have 1 drive in for a debian / ubuntu install - I usually use the sata port for that, which is snaked through the case. Once installed you can plug the other drives back in.

Alternately, you can put a drive in a usb case and use that. Not the fastest, but gives another drive so you can have 6 usable.

I run zfs for mine (I don't use the onboard raid).

As for best distro for a web server, really depends what you want to do.

Is this for external use, or internal use only?

If for external, I'd recommend not doing it inhouse at all, rent a vps somewhere and stick there (eg Digital Ocean).

If for internal, doesn't really matter what you use, you can install any OS, and have a web server setup.
I'd look at using a pre-built docker container if you don't know what you are doing.

Dude decided to install CentOS rather.

Thank you to all who helped and responded.

Thx guys.
