Try XBMC Live 10.0 I read somewhere it works with that build... apparently the ATI drivers are only broken in 10.1 on-wards. Seems a bit suspect to me but might be worth a try

Also read that... I suppose it won't hurt to try.

Have any of you had the following issue:

Server will run fine and then just stop for a few seconds and then resume again?

All,

Must admit, read through most of the pages but jumped to the end to ask for a summary :) (my excuse is that I'm too busy in the new pricing thread ;))

I currently have a 12TB and 8TB RAID setup (UnRaid is the only way to go for mass media storage, no argument) but this little box is perfect for a 8TB NAS.

However, it's so well priced I want to use it for my XBMC players as well, as many of you have done.

So the question:

What is the exact HDMI display card I must get? And where in Cpt can I get it? I prefer to buy from Frontosa, but not fussy.

And lastly, does XBMCLive install without any hacks or tweaks?

Tx!

PC. OK, that's 3 questions. :)

Doing what exactly? With what OS?

Well different things, it's most noticeable when running windows vm's but even the base OS does that when I move files around on the filesystem (have done ubuntu and OpenSuSE now and both do the same) Nothing extroadinary installed on the system either...

Frontosa don't have them.

They have the graphcis card you want though - Sapphire HD5450.

Just remember - XBMC Live and the 5450 arn't happy together... I'll try v10.0 on the weekend and report back.

Yip :( Also hope they get it working - not keen on running Windows.

This is kinda what I'm hoping to avoid.

Need a 'take this, stick it in there, switch it on and stand back' type of solution.

I've spent more hours most of you are old 'fiddling' to make stuff work.

Now I just want 'plug and play' not 'plug and pray' :)

Any idea on the best card for 'Live?

Hi Jannie
XBMC live is has a few issues with the ATI drivers so I'd wait to buy a 5450 until someone else gets a working solution.
Nvdia GT210 works out the box though... The tricky thing is to find one with a small enough heat-sink (most of the actively cooled one's will be fine, the passive one's seem to have huge heatsinks.) then you also need to get one that has a low-profile bracket in the box as well.

Anyone with a 5450 given openelec a go? Might be a good option if you're just going to use the box as a media centre... Boots 10x faster than XBMC live as well!

EDIT:- I mention openelec and the 5450 because they seem to also have the AMD sorted even the new fusion boards drivers are working... Although the build is only a release candidate!

The GT210.

You'll have to get the active cooled one though, as the passive ones have huge heatsinks that doesn't fit.
But with active I'm not aware of a single-slot low profile card out there.
Also, this card gets way hotter than the 5450 and they're less powerful yet more power-hungry.

You could try and make your own bracket by bending and cutting the normal bracket though, but I'd never buy a GPU that has a small 4cm fan that cools it, they mostly sound like boeings taking off.

Doesn't openelec require an OS to be installed?
