Well different things, it's most noticeable when running windows vm's but even the base OS does that when I move files around on the filesystem (have done ubuntu and OpenSuSE now and both do the same) Nothing extroadinary installed on the system either...

Give us some more details, what drives do you have in there? What's the base OS? RAM? More details more details

sorry busy responding in between work stuff :)

3 x 2TB Seagate (SEAGATE Barracuda* 2TB* Serial ATA Hard Drive (SATA 3.0Gb/s, 5900rpm, 32MB Cache))
1 x 160GB seagate that came with the server (root partition and swap)
2 x 4GB kingston ecc-valueram (Kingston 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 ECC CL9 DIMM (Kit of 2))
Opensuse 11.4 (had ubuntu server 10.04 LTS on before.. same thing)

Base OS (fully patched) has only virtualbox on it (clean install gives the same problem though - I installed virtualbox to run my news leech vm, the server does this without any vm's powered on)

nothing else beyond that.

Doesn't openelec require an OS to be installed?
Sorry missed your post!

Openelec doesn't no it is it's own linux distro esstentially, XBMC live uses ubuntu server as a base and then puts the packages XBMC needs to run on it. Openelec's built from scratch purely as a XBMC distro, no unneeded ubuntu/debian packages/services and doesn't rely on ubuntu drivers http://www.openelec.tv/

I see so - not sure about ATI support though: http://openelec.tv/find-help/docume...are/remote-controls/itemlist/category/77-asus

Sorry was just hassling you;) hehe

All seems good, not sure what to tell you, haven't had any issues with my one HPMS (ubuntu server and 2 VM's) haven't noticed any issues

Maybe I'm just not as observant though... <---- Definite possibility :p

The GT210.

You'll have to get the active cooled one though, as the passive ones have huge heatsinks that doesn't fit.
But with active I'm not aware of a single-slot low profile card out there.
Also, this card gets way hotter than the 5450 and they're less powerful yet more power-hungry.

You could try and make your own bracket by bending and cutting the normal bracket though, but I'd never buy a GPU that has a small 4cm fan that cools it, they mostly sound like boeings taking off.

What about the 220?

This one seems to fit the spec and it seems to come with a low profile bracket:

Will it work?

Agree on the fan, but what else to do? :)

The TDP for the 220 is 58W and the PCI-E slot on the HPMS only delivers 25W so the the GT210 is probably still the better choice. It has a TDP of 30.5W so it already won't reach it's full speed.
The newer versions of the asus 210 also seem to have a double slot low-profile bracket which doesn't work in the Microserver. You may have to check in the box at the dealer to make sure it fits all the requirements!

Jannie dit hang af of die low profile bracket single of dual slot is.
As hy dual slot is werk hy nie want daar is nie n opening langs die kaart nie.

If you want a GT210 that works rather make your own braket by bending the normal one.

I actually currently run mine without a bracket. Kinda dangerous, I have to admit, but nobody ever touches the machine so it's not that big a deal. Bending the existing bracket isn't something I though of. I'll give it a bash. I'll just need to cut a slot for the screw so that I can fasten it to the chassis properly.

Well, if you do want to do it, it will end up looking a bit ugly.
make sure you super-heat the area you want to bend, and use a vice if you have one, otherwise you won't get a sharp 90 degree bend.

Anyone know if the sapphire HD6450 lp will fit nice in the server?
And has anyone bought and tried a PowerColor HD5450 lp for that matter. Was thinking of picking one up from Esquire this weekend.

guys, can the SATA port be used for an extra hdd or is it solely for a optical?

You can use it for an extra hdd. If you do, run some performance benchmarks on that drive and one in the 4x drive bays. Some people report poor performance from the SATA port. There is a custom BIOS that supposedly enables full speed on the port, but that BIOS gave me grief with Windows.

You can also use the external SATA port to connect an internal drive.
