HP ProLiant MicroServer

Good luck! You have about 3 hours before the timer runs out on that special. Hopefully you can get a quote before then from somewhere ( online store? )

Nah, they haven't responded to my "Fast Track Registration" over the weekend yet.

I also did not get the success email from them - Though my account was created. I had to apply a second time, and I got an email to say that it is already active

I am going to pick up my HP Server this afternoon. I have the GFX card already and hard drives. I have ordered an extra 4gigs ram and a usb wireless receiver. All I need now is a remote control. I am sure it has been answered already in this thread somewhere a while ago but want to know what would be the best option for me to use as a remote. I will more than likely be using either XBMC or Plex. I know I can use my iPhone as a remote, but don't like the idea of that being the only remote.

So please, any recommendations would be great.

what reciever did you get?

For a remote to work you will have to get a USB Infrared Receiver, and for a remote you can't go wrong with the Logitech Harmony series, or you could get a mini wireless keyboard like this

Yeah I am aware I would need to get a remote with a receiver but just not sure on which one to get. I have heard the Harmony Series is the way to go, but wanted to see if there were other options out there. I will defiantly be getting some sort of wireless keyboard too, but that will only be later on.

What some people seem to do is buy a remote with a receiver then use that receiver combined with the Logitech Harmony.

If you're going to be buying one piece at a time I would recommend getting a mini wireless keyboard first then a remote, but if you really want the remote first I would recommend getting a MCE compatible remote like the Hauppauge MCE Remote with receiver.

Then when you get yourself a Harmony you can use this guide.

Yes it works. Did it when they first released the beta, it reboots so fast the rest of the networked devices don't detect it rebooting.

Just finished installing. That's one slick OS. I think I'm going to like Windows 8.

Just received my 2 dollar remote (for the receiver) and want to use it with my harmony 700.

Is it plug and play? Coz i plugged in the receiver, set my remote to media center pc (MCE) and nothing. The led indicator on the receiver flashes, but nothing i press is registered.

Are there any settings i'm supposed to change? Openelec.

I can recommend the Hauppauge remote + receiver from Prophecy. Works well with my Harmony :)

Another question which might have been answered already (but can't find the answer). I am going to setup my new HP Micro Server tonight but still can't decide between using XBMC or Plex???

I know alot of users are using XBMC. One of my main reasons for leaning towards Plex, is the ability to browse and stream the content from the server to my iPad or iPhone's from anywhere around the house easily. Can XBMC do the same? This is something I really want to be able to do (especially for the kids when they want to watch there shows).

I will most likely be installing Windows 7 on the server and then either XBMC or Plex (most likely Plex if XBMC can't stream to the iPad ect).

If anyone who is currently running XBMC on there HP MicroServer and is able to stream to the iPad and iPhone, please could you let me know your experience before I install tonight.

Thanks in advance.
