HP ProLiant MicroServer

Looking for the same answers, I would prefer one without a fan (noise).

I saw that Esquire had a fanless one but I am not sure about the bracket:

I see they also have a GT210, wonder if that would fit/play HD content.

I'm pretty sure the GT210 will work, though it won't be as future proof. I think a lot of people here have the GT210.

The heatsink on the fanless GT610 looks massive, I am skeptical that it will fit in the microserver and in the very least it would obscure your other PCI slot. But... the picture could be misleading.

I have one with a fan in my microserver and you won't even hear the fan, trust me.

If you're not going to use Linux I would suggest a passively cooled 6450. The fan might get noisier as the bearings start to wear out and get some dust (cheap fans on these entry level cards). Also don't assume that the card ships with a LP bracket (even if it says so online), ask the seller!

Edit: ATi works perfectly fine on Openelec

If anyone is looking for a passively cooled Sapphire HD6450 I have up for grabs. 8 months old, replaced it with a GT610 as it plays better with openelec 3. With LP bracket.

Except for the complete lack of HD audio.

Is anyone using a Samsung TV remote with Flirc? Does it work well? I'm thinking it could be a problem if your media server is located next to the TV and you up the volume... it would up the volume on the TV and Flirc surely?

I have something similar to this

I have a Sony. I control both xbmc volume and tv with same volume control. Doesn't bother me. Everynow and then you have to bring both to zero to "reset" them.

If its your only remote then only use the tv volume and leave openelec at max.

So they didn't have stock of the GT610 and I couldn't wait, so I just got the 5450 AGAIN. Funny enough i didn't have any problems setting up openelec this time.

Does anyone know if there's a way to backup your SABnzbd suite? I want to transfer my setup from my N40 to my N54 without doing a full image or similar.

I am getting one as a gift. Said will have a HDMI graphics card installed. Gonna leave the server blank so I can install Linux on it. Have any of you installed linux on it and used as a media player? Sorry...there are almost 300 pages now....cant read all of them. :-)

Copy .xbmc directory. It has all the plugins and configs.

Get openelec. That is all.

Yeah I've done it with ubuntu that loads straight into XBMC, just make sure it's an nvidia card if you use linux. If you use ATI, you're gonna have a bad time

So to answer my own question, just copy the addons folder from the user directory. A few things have to be setup manually regardless

Yikes....not sure what card will be in it. I just know the graphics card had to be installed seperately cause it does not havd HDMI out of the box. Damn Damn...I thought most graphics cards today are sorted out on Linux.

I hope it is a nividia then. Should find out today.

Picked up a Microserver and a GT-620 from PC Int. yesterday. They were puzzled by the number of people suddenly buying Microservers from them :D
