What happened to your MicroServer? Did it just break? Or is there Mobo damage? What type of Mobo damage if there is Mobo damage?

Leaky cap. Haven't yet got around to replacing it. It did leak all over the network chip though so I have my doubts.

Cap is also difficult to come by as it's a strange rating. I will maybe go through this weekend and get one to check.

Doubt it caused any damage. If you don't get exact one, closest rating should work just fine.

The price is going to be considerably lower next week-I cannot say when but it will be next week -Look out for the secial in your email and on the forum
Great stuff
Just downloaded the MyBB registration form
Might as well get a new one whilst looking for a way to fix the blown ones
So sad seeing them sitting there -- but the go -- she is gone :)

You guys who has failing units, you are using N36's right?
No N40l's failing so far?
N40L's
but
Not failing -- previous owner got some sparkles on the network
which
Got into the MB via the network connection.

Needs more than just a cap or two
(NO burn marks or smell though , just a little trickle or so -- enough to overstress something.
PSU is 100% )

Managed to setup Logitech Harmony 700 Remote, but disappointingly slow with response; changed delay settings bit still no joy; anybody have the same issue...is there script I can run to speed it up; unusable

Has anybody here tried to flash the firmware on the original HP drive that came with the microserver?

Updating the BIOS?

Yes, I did it on both my N36's ages ago, but don't expect me to remember the detail ;)

It was relatively straight forward.

No, I'm talking about updating the firmware on the stock HP hard drive.

Anybody tried?

Excuse my ignorance ;)
What's the reason you'd like to do that? Are there restrictions on the supplied hdd usage or something?

I went to go buy a sata power cable for the internal cd/dvd I installed in the HP yesterday and then when trying to install, I realised it was too short. So that put paid to getting my media server up and running. :(

There are issues with detection and performance at cold temperatures with the early version of the HDD firmware (HPG0). That would include the N36L and probably most N40Ls. Problems were fixed in version HPG7.

I'm being to think that HP simply grabbed a drive from their server storage pool to stick in the Microserver and didn't think that the firmware update tool needs a smart array controller to work, making it useless with the Microserver. But I am really guessing, that's why I need to know if anyone has successfully updated the firmware. Prove me wrong. I've been suffering for months with HPG0 symptoms and have tried every conceivable update method with no success...

Hey Thug,

Are you referring to a molex to sata power cable?
What length is needed? I'm about to go pickup my server, may as well buy the right power cable same time.

Shew, okay, sounds like a pain in the butt. Have you found the latest firmware?
I suppose there is a danger in trying to upgrade firmware while there are drive detection issues. It may just kill the drive if it fails during update.
