HP ProLiant MicroServer

It's all the lightning! I lost another ADSL router on Sunday night!

Maybe you guys need to invest in some UPS's
Have a 3kVA. But routers are a beech, Telkom copper lines. The surge suppressors are a myth when it comes to Thor. He knocks them to smithereens. Staring at 7 modems, 5 Billions, a WhoFflungDung-in-a-blue-box and a D-Link I threaten to attack with a hot air gun etc (future project when I'm bored. Bought all the kit, but ... lol). Oh, and about another 5 mobo's gathered over a period of time. Also one 8 port switch.

Yes, I know: Fibre, wireless etc. But having about 7 pc's and servers floating about, plus a computer server workshop, it does not scale.

... still blames LazyLion, but sorry to hear bro ... :(

Great - I gave away my wired keyboards in December and my wireless has USB and PS2 - without the PS2 it can't power.

I'm sitting here and it is one button to start setting up...and I can't do it

The Gen8? Strange. Plug in the ilo, and manage it using ilo.

Oh that's pretty cool - didn't know it worked so early on - thanks!

It went in BIOS now, so I'll play a little more

This thread makes me miss my server, it was an amazing device for the price back then.

I told my friend earlier that I was paying almost R3,200.00 for a server and he laughed because he got his N36L for R850.00. But after unloading this unit, I really do thing it's in a different league to the older both quality, performance and features wise.

I think my N40L plus GPU was R1600, but that's nothing compared to the system I built myself, which cost me pennies.

Get yourself an Astraphobe: it disconnects the Telkom line when electrical activity is detected.

What is of interest is the fact that it can disconnect with a clear blue sky and, conversely, can stay connected during a storm: in short, what is happening outside your window is no guarantee that your router won't be taken down.

Just noticed this on PCInt. Although the photo isn't the Gen8, the specs are.

Same price as Esquire if they run out

I am running openelec on my n40l - getting Gen 8

Will the bootable usb and all 4 drives work if I just transfer everything?

Is there a reason the Gen8 had odd brackets for the drive?

On the old, I just screwed in the drive. But on the new, there are 2 brackets I must remove first?

Either to aid airflow or additional support during shipping would be my guess. You often seen spacing blanks in servers.

Suspect it could also be a form of stiffener. This would prevent vibration related oscillation from happening, causing a hum and which would also be bad for the other disks. We certainly see this in servers.

Guys I am looking to buy another one of these since my last one packed up. Which model is the best value for money? Will be used for media only. Also where is the best place to get one? (In SA)

This is also positioned as a proper server. The inclusion of an ilo adapter alone makes this server worth while for me.

Does the Gen8 take the same RAM? And is it possible to add a GPU? Looks kinda sealed....

Might buy one and sell my N40...orN54...not sure what I still have
