HP ProLiant MicroServer

I am having trouble opening the front panel door using the keys which I was given with my server. If I use any more force I may break the key.

The key should turn very easily.

This may sound crazy, but have you tried putting pressure on the door (i.e. pushing it in) before turning the key ?

The reason that I mention this is that if the big fat cable (at the bottom) isn't secured properly it tends to push the door outwards, putting pressure on the blade of the lock.

BTW is it the same both keys ?

Ah I had to jiggle it in so that the key goes in, then its fine.

I have a question

I want to buy some HDDs for it now. I have read that not all HDDs work for this microserver, I have also read that the Samsung F4 2TB comes highly recommended for it. Problem is I cant find any e-tailer/vendor selling that HDD.

My question is: What 2-3TB HDDs can I buy for this microserver that works nicely with RAID. Similarly where can I buy another 2GB ram stick for it.

Re the disks: the limitation lies in the current draw - you are dealing with a 150W PSU. I used two low-powered 'green' drives (draw < 10W each) that are working fine.

Re the memory: I used Kingston ValueRam which is available from pretty much everybody.

As always YMMV

I think something on my N54L is dying.. XBMC keeps on giving me an blank screen with an X.. Reboots, then loops the whole time.

Very weird.. Any suggestions?

Im assuming you're also running OpenElec? I get that occasionally when running some of the addons. Though it just restarts and everything is happy again. ie. no looping. I would say you've got two options. 1) Dig through the logs to see what happened. 2.) re-install the OS.

Reinstalled from stable 2.0.0 to 3.0.6... Same thing happened 8 hours later, probably GPU related.. Not the end of the world... ALWAYS wanted to organize my media files better in the mean time.. Was starting to look like a mess with some seasons on different HDD's and all...

I've had issues with openelec on any version after 2.0.0 on my Proliant. Even upgraded to the N54 - with no effect. SMB just refuses to work. After each update I give it a bash, but then go back to 2.0.0.

Frustrating!

N54+Nvidia210 on hdmi.

NL54, WIndows 8 and Geforce 620 (Asus)

I have two NL40 (one with ATI 5450) and one stock, both running windows 8. Installation was fine, no hassles.

I recently tried to install Windows 8 on a new NL54 with Geforce GT620 - No success. Keep on getting error message: DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

I ended up installing Windows 7 Ultimate without any issues.
Even trying to install Windows 8 on top of Win7 Ultimate did not work, giving same error message.

Anybody else had this issue?

I came across a single post in a support forum that suggested that there was a conflict between the Nvidia card and onboard NIC.

Any ideas on this?

Nope, I have Win8 running on the N54L with a Geforce 210 without an issue.

Question: New owner of N54L here.

Looking to find a GPU, I have been recommended geforce (210) for that Linux driver support but the HD5450 seems to be a better card. I also see some of you are using GT620/GT610s. Which according to the product websites of these cards, they require 300w minimum PSUs. Nobody concerned about this?

HD5450 is fine for a windows box, otherwise go nvidia for better driver support. I use the GT 610/620 (always forget which one) and its fine, basically the same as the 210

I use the HD5450 and it works flawlessly. The only downside is that some times it seems like there is screen tearing on my 55" LED. Nothing that ruins the experience but noticeable on static scenes at times...

i have a Sapphire HD7750 low profile gpu installed in the N54l works perfect...
Aswel...2 x 8gig 1600mhz low profile ram...:)

Running it on a N40L, 4GB RAM and using a HD5540 GPU.

Anyway to speed this baby up? Thanks...

3.1 is the beta tree. Go back to the latest 3.0 build

But the funny thing is even did the same thing on the stable 3.0.0 releases. I'm starting to think that the N40L wasn't meant for versions higher than 2.0.0...
