HP ProLiant MicroServer

To those who have slid out the motherboard to install a PCI card before on one of the HP Microservers - how involved is the removing of cables off the board and then replugging in? Best plan to take a photo and then plug in per the original setup?
photos are helpul for the first time

Has anybody installed a 4Tb in an N54L? The drive is recognized but as 2 different partitions. Is there a way to recognize it as a single 4Tb? Running Windows 8 Pro x64.

Not really, most cables only have one place they will fit, others you can just memorise

As someone who is a complete novice, it turned out to be a breeze. Some can be awkward to get to but it's a simple process...

Watched a couple of youtube vids last night which have stopped me from cancelling my ordered card out of fear of bricking the server.

Have worked on countless pc's but this cramped server is very new ground for me and rather intimidating. Looking forward to giving it a slow, photographed go when the card arrives.

URGENT FEEDBACK REQUIRED PLEASE

I have just discovered an issue with PLEX MEDIA CENTRE on the N45L. It will not run due to a lack of audio device. Device manage confirms no audio device even though sounds are piped through Remote Desktop.

For those that have installed a graphics card with HDMI out, does your device manage now display audio devices?

If the card doesn't add audio devices then I will have to cancel the graphics card and shelve the plan to use the n45L as a player because PLEX simply will not launch the client app without audio devices detected...

The graphics card will create a sounds device if all drivers are correctly installed.

No. Windows 7,a nd 8 only allows for partitions of up to 2TB. so at the end of the day, you need to partition that drive to 2 x 2TB partitions.

My 3tb drive is recognised perfectly in my Windows 7 n45l box. The was no need to partition it for me...

You 100% sure about that?

Hmmm, apparently I'm completely wrong. Not sure where I read it, but last time I heard your drive is limited to 2.2tb (before you have to partition it). Not sure if that applies to all your drives, or only the boot drive. Regardless, I'm wrong.

RTFM! :D

No seriously, have a squiz at the manual included the box it has a step for step guide that makes it super easy.

How did you install the 4Tb?

You use GPT (GUID Partition Table) instead of MBR for the partition table.

MBR has the limitation to sizes.

The is done during the initial formatting session.

A good free tool to use for disk/partition management is
EaseUS Partition Master.

The thing with GPT partitions is that they can only boot off an EFI BIOS.
