HP ProLiant MicroServer

Are you absolutely sure that the USB drive is being created correctly? You can manually do it iirc but I've not tried that. Seems like the USB stick isn't properly bootable. User error? :p

It's pretty idiot proof (Or so I think:D) but I have done it through the exe file and using the bat file as well. I really don't know how much there is that you can actually do wrong :/

Then it has to be USB stick or port, maybe try another PC.

I honestly don't know but I do know that I'm as agitated as F at the moment. Can someone please tell me what files are present on the flash drive after the creation of the bootable USB...? I have a feeling that somehow something is going wrong at this step but there
is nothing to show what is supposed to be there. If I do it from the bat file the there is nothing on the OPENELEC drive. If I do it via the installer then there is a 2kb .........FOUND the problem :/ I put the files for creating the bootable drive directly onto the drive prior to creation thereof. THAT was the problem. Aaaargh ffs. Ok off I go again.

So all is working now?

Here's what I do when I have to reinstall

Download Aeon Nox skin 4.0.9
Install via zip
Download showcase mod
Install by following directions to overwrite certain files in the addons folder.
Download YouTube addon
Download library monitor addon to auto update when new files are added
Download trakt plugin
Download artwork organiser

Add video folders - I have documentary movies, documentary series, Tv shows, and movies as standard. Set appropriate content, and scan into library.
Change various viewtypes in movies and TV shows.
Add music folder
Let it scan to library overnight as this one takes forever.

And that's the basics covered...

Luckily I have all of those addons and skin files saved to my server so it's incredibly quick and easy to do...

Ok so I have some more questions which I can't seem to get sorted. I have Openelec installed and connected via an Ethernet cable. Now together with the 250gb I also installed an additional 2tb drive for now. What I want to do is set up my sickbeard SABnzb combo to download directly to these drives. How can I access the drives from my main PC..?

Secondly when trying to add "content" from my main pc to xbmc I get to my main download drive (:Z on my Pc) but when I select it I get asked for a password and username. Now as far as I know I have no password or username setup. I have deactivated the necessity for a password via my network and sharing centre on my pc but it keeps on asking whenever I try and add drives(or rather folders) for content I get stuck there...?

You may need a username and password to access a Windows pc from openelec. As in it can't be blank. I think.

Re drive access.
If you can access your openelec over the network (run, //ip address), then you should see a folder called media. Your drive should be listed there. (Hopefully it's properly formatted, if you can see it openelec, then you're fine).

On point 1 I have no idea what that may be but I have tried everything with no success :( I have tried to change the share setting for the folder as well but it doesn't allow me to. I have alos tried all the suggestion listed in here with the same result.

Also tried this with the same result : http://openelec.tv/forum/69-network/67166-solved-lock-settings-driving-me-crazy (ie. still not working)

On point 2 I can access it via the IP address but the "media" folder is completely empty. How can I fix it so they show up...?

Do you really have your heart set on openelec, it seems like you're only tormenting yourself.

That's what I was hinting at, I've had Windows 7 on since May last year with exactly zero issues.

This is a bitch to get right for a novice. I struggled for a few hours before getting it right. Basically you have to add it as a Samba share, so you have to SSH in to the box, then do something or another, then open one of the settings in notepad and add the drives as samba shares - figuring out the exact format for this is what got me confused as hell. Took hours of trial and error to get all of the drives working properly.

Just install Windows 7 and click "share drive" or whatever that setting is and bam - it's available on the network. Windows is just much easier, and all you're saving with Openelec is a few seconds of boot time, which doesn't interest me at all. It's super-fast on Windows and you can set it up to open on startup, so I see no real benefit to Openelec unless you're running a low-spec machine or are so damn geeky that boot-times are timed like Olympic races. Mine boots in under 30 seconds, straight to XBMC...

You have to manually configure it as a Samba share in the samba.conf file. Keeper put together an awesome guide to setting up Openelec which for some or other reason won't let me attach here. I'll upload it to zippyshare quick and post it here if you're hellbent on Openelec. It will guide you through everything step-by-step...

EDIT: here it is - http://www63.zippyshare.com/v/9468557/file.html

Thanks DJ but I think you guys are right. Will also be much easier to troubleshoot issues with win7 for me than openelec.
