HP ProLiant MicroServer

Is anyone here running Windows 8.1 on a N40L? If yes, did you do anything special?
I had a hardrive failure on my boot drive, so need to re-install everything. I have tried numerous times to load Win 8.1 with no luck. I have tried from a DVD and also from a flash disk. I have also tried 2 different ISO sources. Installation goes fine, but on reboot it gets stock on the "setting up devices" screen.
Any suggestions?

On my N54L it had to do with the onboard NIC lan. Disabling it let my Win 8.1 complete the installation

Thanks, might be worth a try, I thought it might be stuck with detecting hardware, and had already unplugged everything else.
Does the N40L and N54L use the same NIC?

My 250Gb boot drive went belly-up Completely destroyed, groves worn into the platter and metal fragments all over the inner casing.
That's now days to get everything setup again... Windows, XBMC, SAB, sickbeard, CP...
Can kick myself for not backing up onto data drive.
I am also done with Seagate... every drive I've had fail had been a Seagate, not a single Western Digital drive yet.

I'm still running n36 machines. I noticed the other day that there are 8 TB drives around. Any idea it they are just plug and play with the Microserver? Running OPENELEC if that makes s a difference

I was advised to buy a HP Proliant server in June 2014 to be used as a PC with the following specs:
-Win 7 64-bit
-AMD Turion II NeoN54L Dual-core processor, 2200Mhz,
-8gig RAM
-1TB hardrive

My problem is that the PC freezers when I have Corel Draw, Outlook, Excel open at the same time.

I need advice as to how to overcome the freezing up of the PC.

Can or should I upgrade with a better/faster processor (seeing that it is only 9months old) or should I rather just get a better/faster PC?

Advice/assistance will be appreciated.!

Are you running genuine Win 7 (vs patched/cracked) and are all the updated drivers loaded?
I had no issues with outlook and excel/word, streaming a video running all together, but didn't have Corel Draw installed.
What are corel's requirements?

It needs the latest BIOS to be able to run 8.1 without disabling the lan.

While it is an awesome piece of hardware, it is not really suited for the task.

You may want to consider a dedicated graphics card add-on (you will need a low profile).

I am not saying it wont work, but it is almost like using a Beatle to transport a rugby team.

Whenever you get advice on what to buy, make sure that your advisor understands your needs clearly.

k guys, something that has been mentioned probably over and over, but anyone using a SATA expansion card and a 4-bay 2.5 in the 5.25 bay?
