I have had terrible luck with my server and drives. The 250GB failed just out of warranty, the 2TB drive I bought at the same time failed once in warranty, and has just failed again out of warranty. I am waiting for the new drive to arrive today. I am completely done with Seagate drives. All new ones get replaced with WD. Also had a drive fail in one of our laptops yesterday... And surprise, it was a Seagate!

My Seagate doesn't seem to boot from a cold start occasionally. Goes pass bios and then nothing. Have to cycle power and then it's back again.

I am also done with Seagate. It used to be my favourite, but recently I had lots of problems with them.

Managed to get a Gen8 Microserver at Esquire for R 2999 (ex vat)

Looking to install Windows 8.1 on it. I have seem online that 8.1 detects most of the hardware. Are there any drivers from the HP website that it is advisable to install?

Some more info wrt my bluescreen issue.
It would seem it's a RAM issue. But I don't quite get why?
2 x 4GB DIMMs
One is a Corsair @ 1333 Mhz, the other is a ADATA @ !600Mhz. According to my searches that shouldn't cause bluescreens.
Both are also of the same voltage, which is more important.
Both are unbuffered.
I ran Memtest86+ for 7 hours straight - no errors.
Upgraded to latest BIOS - for what it's worth.

It still went BSOD after a few hours +- 5 to 6 hours.
Then saw a thread where someone suggested to remove one DIMM - did it. No BSOD for 12 hours now.
WTF gives?
Looks like this box want 2 of exactly the same DIMMS.
Don't want to go buy another DIMM and still have the same issue

Run Memtest on each stick of RAM independently. If they are both fine on their own, then the cause is most likely incompatibility between the two. In that case, purchase another to have a matching pair.

The Adata SHOULD back-scale to the 1333Mhz speed without problems, but it could be a CAS timing problem.

Thanks for the suggestion, did that. The Kingston stick gave an error after quite a few hours >5
Will get another Adata. Holding thumbs it works properly.
A data now been running memtest for 21 hours. No errors.:D

General recommendation is to run Memtest overnight with a couple passes. I would say the Adata is fine with no errors after 21 hours.

I've found my memtest to run for ages and be just fine while prime95 picked up errors within a minute. Fortunately after picking up errors in prime95 I reduced the frequency of the ram and after that system was very solid whereas before it would occasionally bsod.

hi guys

i've had my server for a long time, always been trustworthy and reliable... until now :(

I have one of the older ones, the Micro N36L Nhp 250GB. I did stick some more RAM in it, but that is all I have done.

I woke up to the yellow HP logo flashing. According to this it's a non-critical issue, but Im not sure sure about that

I opened up and found this, one is of the block with the network port and 2xUSB. The other is the eSATA port which I have never used.

Ditto here, after last night's load shedding (I suspect):

Still busy opening her up, actually doesn't look to have originated from the MB. I spent so many hours setting this baby up...don't have the time anymore to redo. :(

Motherboard seems ok (no evidence of anything fried). Took out the PSU, also looks ok - how do I test it?

The SATA cable to the cd drive fried - would that be caused by the PSU?
