I got feedback from HP, with a quote to repair my server.

620826-001 SPS - BD M/B N36L 1.3GHz SMB 1 7,223.26

620827-001 SPS - PS 150W 1 1,386.23

Subtotal 9,395.49

14 % VAT 1,315.37

Total 10,710.86

I'm actually at a loss for words. You weren't joking when you said that it's going to be pricey.....

Oh yes, I could have told you that. I also enquired a year or two ago about a replacement Mobo. At the time was cheaper to buy 2 brand new servers instead of one replacement Mobo.

I just don't get it though... They essentially making it impossible to go with that as an option. The cost of those components is totally ridiculous. How to they justify such markups?

I'm really disgusted.

Gave my n54l a reboot remotely from work today to flush memory etc..

I then forgot about it until my wife sent me a message to say Plex was not feeding the roku's. I connected and found my 2TB media SATA had vanished from the system - Windows 7 had not even picked it up on the bootup. My backup of this drive is several months old and I would freak if I lost all movies and series so I rebooted again and thankfully the drive came back.

I am currently backing the entire thing up to a 2TB external just in case a failure is looming but it seems to be behaving. Drive is less than a year old.

Wierd.....

Exactly what happens to my 2TB Seagate recently. I only managed to recover less than half the drive before it died.

Anyone here by any chance using this memory on a N54L: http://www.firstshop.co.za/kingston-memory-8-gb-KTH-PL316E_8G-p-4422

Want to upgrade the memory on our office FreeNAS box with ECC modules. The only place reported that seems to confirm that it does work is a review on amazon.de: http://www.amazon.de/Kingston-KTH-PL316E-8G-Arbeitspeicher-PC3-12800/dp/B008LMNHB8

Would feel much better knowing if somebody actually has this module working on theirs.

TIA
A bit of googling will help. I've got 16GB of Kingston ECC memory in my N36L running freenas. Awesome performance.

And progress on the delay on play issue? Mine does it too, get sound but the pic takes a while to play.
May not be a windoes issue as I run openelec on mine

Lost my seagate 2tb few weeks back. Swap out, but no stock. Lost everything. But that's what sickrage and couchpotato are for.

Lesson is don't buy seagate.

Has anyone tried "repurposing" an HP Proliant Microserver case?

If you were to read a few posts back, you would note that my HP Proliant Microserver has died after a lightning event. I have no idea if it's the power supply or motherboard or both.

Has anyone thought of using the case and installing a non-HP mini-itx motherboard, processor, etc.? I'm wondering if it would fit, and wether it would be possible to connect the hard drive cold-plug rack to another motherboard?

The case really is quite nice, and if it is possible to reuse it for a new server, I'd love to.

Let me know your thoughts.

I guess it's possible but not feasible. It would be a lot of work, way easier to buy another mini ITX case instead.

good man, you just read my mind. I came here to ask the exact same question. I was wondering if I would be able to buy some cheap motherboard and get my fried microserver up and running again.

It would appear that the motherboard board is an HP design though. Darn

Oh well... insurance have paid out and the new one is on its way already. Not quite sure what to do with the old one though :confused:

I'm in the same situation. Have you ordered the new gen 8? I haven't committed yet but I'm very close to going to the raspberry pi route and setting up and old computer with my hard drives as a NAS. I'm still trying to figure out whether my plan would work though.

The plan is:
* Raspberry pi runs Openelec / OSMC with sickbeard, sabnzbd and couchpotato;
* Raspberry pi downloads overnight and extracts to "completed" folder on micro SD;
* All shows are actually stored on NAS on old computer - sickbeard on Raspberry pi points to NAS for storage locations;
* Whenever I turn on NAS to watch shows, sickbeard on Raspberry pi runs post script to move items from "completed" folder on SD to show folder on NAS.

It's this last step I'm trying to figure out...
