I wasn't aware you were having issues with creating the USB installation source.
The best tool at the moment for that is RUFUS. https://rufus.akeo.ie

Keep it in your arsenal.

Ah yes that is what I would use if I had an ISO but I have the disk. I have daemon tools to make an image but whatever I tried I could not get the ISO to be readable by Microsofts tool to create a startup usb from an ISO. Kept giving me a invalid ISO error no matter what formats and options I tried.

Resorted to using diskpart and copying all the files over manually. That worked.

*****, sorry. Yes. I typed it as 2008, but auto changed. Busy with some other server stuff.

Hehe ok cool. No worries glad I got that sorted before I ran into issues

While I have your attention...

The best way to upgrade everything would be to boot into F10 and go into the configure section and run that option to scan for software updates or something like that. Do I have to update the bios manually?

I did a manual BIOS update on mine. Then you would use the included HPUSB utility to create the bootable USB.

Then again, I might be confused. I've done so many different servers and versions in the last 2 weeks. My brain hurts.

Just double checked. I did it manually.
Used SP64874

Ok thanks for checking that.

Ive done a bit of looking and I went into the Itelligent Provisioning and run all the updates there. Is that all I need to do?

If I have to run a BIOS update manually I actually have no clue where to start :(

I do know that the BIOS Im running is from 2013, saw that when I POST the server

edit 2 : seems this IS the latest

Why on earth won't my gen8 boot with this stick of ram in it?

I really hope this server isn't limited to only certain types of ram :(

Googling now

On page 52 in the Users Guide;
The server memory subsystem supports UDIMMs only. UDIMMs represent the most basic type of memory
module and offer lower latency and (relatively) low power consumption, but are limited in capacity.
The server supports dual-rank, PC3-10600E/PC3-12800E (DDR3 ECC) DIMMs operating at 1333 MHz or
1600 MHz speed.
Memory speed depends on the type of processor and the number of DIMMs installed in the server. Installed
DIMMs can operate at either 1600 MT/s or 1333 MT/s. For more information, see the technical
specification of the installed processor.

damn.

The Gen8 is far stricter in it's requirements for ram. Also had me running in circles in the beginning. Best economical bet is Transcend DDR3 1600 ECCDIMM 8GB

I'm thinking of upgrading windows 7 to 8.1 as my server is running dog slow. Videos on Kodi pause and have now become unwatchable. On my c drive I only have windows installed so by installing 8.1 all my other drives shouldn't be affected right? Those have all my media on

Unplug during install and the data should be fine.

Okay I've reinstalled Windows and now I see my 3TB that was partitioned into 2 drives is missing the second partition :crying: is there any way i can get it back?

Edit: It shows that the partition is un-allocated in Disk managment

Did you unplug during the install?

If yes, open the partition manager thing in Windows and send a screenshot.

What was the partition formatted as before the reinstall?

I unplugged all drives except the os drive. This media drive was partitioned into D and E. Only D shows up and under disk manager E shows as unallocated

That's odd. I don't understand how the partition table could change on the unplugged drive. Google away I guess

Can someone help with this error. I installed windows 8 but when trying to update to 8.1 it gets stuck on - getting devices ready 46%. Then restarts and restores to win 8.

Maybe this is causing it, but how do I fix this?
It boots up and runs fine
