HP ProLiant MicroServer

OK I guess I've figured out the problem. The TV I was testing on is in a location that doesn't get very good WiFi signal. My Ubiquiti Unifi AP's are refusing to "adopt" since I moved. I don't think they are getting their IP addresses correctly because in the router logs I see multiple "DHCP request"/"DHCP offered" when I "boot" them. So in the meantime I'm temporarily using the router as the AP as well.

So, not enough bandwidth to stream "original" quality so it tries to transcode lower and then doesn't have the power. Tested on another Roku and turned the quality manually to original and now it's fine on that one. I can see the transcoder running but CPU usage is under 10℅ so I guess that's just the audio.

So I think I'm in a similar position. I have an N54L and (N40 and N36) and I bought a Samsung Series 7 TV yesterday (55" UHD). So I plugged in the N54L (Openelec) through my soundbar and it struggled a lot - soft reboots, and green lines etc, and the processor was at 100% the entire time. Initially it played some HD content (not sure format) and then it stopped completely. So switched the resolution to HD but I still can't play anything. (I'm hoping I didn't destroy the processor or something??? I'm going to test by rolling back the entire setup)

Anyway, my options are

1. Convert the N54L into a Windows box - $119 USD :( - with plex and Sonarr (currently using audo). Then run plex client off the Samsung Smart Hub. I assume the TV then does the graphics heavy lifting?

2. Keep the openelec setup with audo. Upgrade the graphics card? I think I have a Gt210 or HD5450. From what you've said I'm not sure this will work.

Requirements - some sort of autodownload machine + media player.

1. Install UnRAID instead because Windows just kills it.

Or 2. Use media optimizer and start pre-transcodint instead of live transcoding.

If you have a GT610 or 5450 I doubt the upgrade will change much of anything.

My Roku direct plays basically everything. Plex will only transcode video when necessary and audio conversion uses hardly CPU at all.

The media info for the file would help shed light on why it's trying to do a video transcode.

Until you switch on subtitles and it decides to embed them and transcodes the entire thing.

Even the Media Optimizer can't save you then.

The Microserver works beautifully now with UnRAID and Apple TV as a client. Samsung (unofficial) app till fails often.

My Samsung smart TV plays everything fine. And so does the Raspberry Pi running Rasplex in the lounge. All content stored on my N36l.

Strange, mine can't play 265 and so my N54 has to transcode which just renders it unwatchable.

Hello All

Just to let you know that we just received the stk# KTH-PL316E/8G which is the 8GB ECC modules for the HP Proliant Gen8 Servers
They are three weeks late but at least they have come now as there is still a huge shortage on these modules

So, lightning has fried 2 modems & my N54L over the weekend. Kinda stuffed without my media server.

What are my options, chuck & buy something else or can they be repaired locally?

If you are in Johannesburg C2KIT (in Kyasands) do board level repairs so may be able to assist.

Call 0861-772-774.

I just had a PSU pop in a 3yr old N36L. Any ideas on where to source an affordable replacement PSU?

Double width though, so not sure if it would fit into a N54L?

Can the Gen 8 server take 3TB HDDs at all ?
Also, it it simple to add 4 x HDD in the tray, and use an SSD where one would do a DVD?

You can put any size HDDs in there.

From a quick search it appears you should be able to put another drive at the top, I'm just not sure what cables you'd need and if it requires a BIOS update (I know the older models did).

Mine is a mission to get at so I'm not going to dig open my server cabinet to look.
