HP ProLiant MicroServer

HP Bring them back!!!
Glad i got mine...but wanted another one

Incase you guys missed it (I did), a firmware update (2011.07.29) from HP is available.

Also, with respect to the NIC 'large transfer issue' when the NIC is set to 1Gbps ~ still present in ESXi 5.0; I hope this firmware update solves it :((((((

I'm unsure, I have only run ESXi on my MS. jannie did suggest he encountered the same issue, but newer NIC drivers may have resolved his issue.

I will be copying everything onto mine tonight. Will post when i have any results.

So far with the later Unbuntu drivers under unRAID 5, I've not seen the problem again where, under unRAID 4.7 (with the older drivers) it was pretty repeatable.

Saw some MS HS guys report the same thing and they also indicated fiddling with the driver (or NIC settings) resolved the problem.

I'm going to try the firmware update, but I am not sure if this will resolve my problem. There are two downloads on the page I linked for the NIC, a driver and firmware update - both for linux (and available for windows) - however, this still does not help me :(

So after how many GB's would it lock up? So far i have copied 400Gb +/- worth of videos. Nothing yet.

And i have bloody problems installing XBMC :-/. Stupid za.unbuntu server was giving me 404 errors. Had to switch to another server.

Quick question, Is it possible to Install Ubuntu onto a flash drive? Currently i have Ubuntu Live running on my flash drive.

Also recommended to use ext2 or ext3(journalling turned off) to limit writes/increase USB life

It seems to be a problem with VMware ESXi 5.0 - I am assuming it is an incompatibility of some sort. During the later stages of the ESXi boot sequence, the NIC LED on the switch and port itself die. After several hours it just starts to work again.
I've booted into Ubuntu using the Ubuntu Live CD and the network functions as expected. The problem, however, is I cant access my virtual ZFS hard drives.
I have also attempted several cables, two switches (and different ports on these switches) so it must be the NIC/ESXi combination.
