HP ProLiant MicroServer

I am presently running esxi 4.1 with a few vm's.

I am hoping to scrap it all and start over from scratch.

I would like to have a nas/storage server os running in VM but using direct passthrought of the connected sata hdd's.

Does anyone know if this is possible or any links to how to succesfully implement this.

You see, I am connecting my datastore hdd to the odd internal sata. And the other sata drives, that i want available via the passthrough will be comnected to the onboard sas port.

The disk passthrough doesn't work. I tried everything but apparently it's an issue with the CPU - has to be intel for the passthrougth to work.

Mine was delivered yesterday :)

Looking for RAM, have seen that low profile is required, or will anything without heatsinks etc work?

Close up of this shows it's a little tall: http://www.comx.co.za/SP002GBLTU133...emory-Information-Price-Buy-Cheap-p-44821.php

Will this fit? Can get some for R120. That plus stock gives 3GB, which suites me for a fileserver :)

I think anything without a heatsink will fit. The Kingston ram i got is slightly bigger than the ram that came with the server but it still fit.

going to buy everything from Esquire today, will be running a 32bit OS, but 1 X4GB dimm might be a good idea.

Should i stick to Ecc or none Ecc?

Im running ecc. Not sure if it actually makes much difference. As for the speed, does it actually run at 1333??

I'm selling one of these, ram upgraded to 8gb, plus a 4gb USB. Perfect condition. R1400.

PM me if interested.

I am trying to install XP with Raid one...but XP can't see the drives (i was afraid it will happen :-( )
does anyone know how to fix this?

I created a new , bootable XP CD, with the Raid drivers integrated.
Will know tonight if it works

Just get 2x 4Gb's once...Max the server can handle. then you don't have to worry again.

Do you really need that much of ram? I'm running xbmc-standalone in ubuntu and its only using 500MB or ram.
I currently got 3GB of ram in my server.
