HP ProLiant MicroServer

Awesome! :D

Ok yeti, just post what the hell went wrong with your OpenELEC install, maybe I can help you.

Playback behaved exactly like it is doing now in XBMC - also, when I switched the monitor from DVI to HDMI (DVI was used to install/test at my PC and the HDMI was a 40" Plasma), as soon as OpenELEC boots the screen went black and stayed there (I could see post/get in to bios) - in other words, it didnt boot. However, on DVI, it booted, but could not play back media.

My mainstay is linux, but based on the issues others had with getting that HD5450 working, I decided on the Windows route. If someone can help me put XBMC on top of ubuntu with my HD5450, you will experience the mythical/often unattainable 'free' lunch.

when you booted with dvi did you enable the hardware acceleration in XBMC?

"Allow hardware acceleration (DXVA2)"

I had the same issue playing files but once i enabled that it worked fine.

The setup is an HD5450, 4GB RAM, 60GB SSD, Windows 7 with XBMC (I tried OpenELEC on a USB with no luck) on a 1Gb wired network. I have downloaded and upgraded the AMD Catalyst drivers (11.9), I have downloaded and upgraded DirectX and I have enabled hardware accelaration in XBMC. I also disabled all the post processing options in the Catalyst Management Console under the Video tab.
...

Yes

Thanks SomeoneEls! The guy at the shop opened the box up for me at the shop - I saw the 2 low profile brackets included.

I also measured the total width (PCB including heatsink) and it was about 19mm. I'm getting my HP tomorrow so will measure then and know for sure.

I'm guessing it's heatsinks like these that guys are struggling with then...

Yup the Silent cards usually have huge heatsinks. The silent 5450 on that page would also fit because it's got a nice small heatsink

Thanks stroebs, I'd prefer to go for a silent card, since I know how horrible a video card fan can be...

i purchased the gainward 250 gt card from pc international for 450-500 rand. cant remember exactly.

comes with the lp bracket, and fits in perfectly into the HP Nl36.

Works of HDMI from boot.

pc international, the ones in randburg.

they also have the LP 210 gt for R 300 or so.

The fans on theses small cards are hardly noticeable, I have two different brands of the G210 and they are both equally silent.

+1

Installed a few GT210s into a client's micro PCs and they were all very quiet even when playing full HD media.

EDIT: On a totally related note, the HD6670's are now available in a low-profile with a low-profile bracket flavour!!! More power for this little beastly machine.

If you intend using linux then stick with nvidia. If it's windows then go for it.

The GTS 250 has a max tdp of 150watts just for the card the PCI-E slot only provides up to 25watts, so you won't get anywhere near the max performance of the card and may run into issues at some stage (not saying you will but I'd get a card with a max tdp a lot closer to the 25w)

As above max tdp 44w

Hi,

Can someone confirm if 3tb drives are supported, and whether it is 64bit.

Thanks

Yes and Yes
