HP ProLiant MicroServer

I've built an Ubuntu + XBMC image that should be able to be restored onto any 8gb flashdisk and will boot and run XBMC off the bat, all drivers for nvidia included, HDMI Audio out fixed, video optimized, and video tearing fixed.

I'm busy compressing it ( Should come down to ~1gb ), and will upload it somewhere tomorrow morning.

Anyone interested in helping me out by pointing out some bugs and such, I'd appreciate a PM.

( This should also work on a PC running an Nvidia graphics card )

how far is this ?

It's done :D Drop me a PM if you want a download link and have a 8gb flashdisk that you can spare :)

EDIT:

Scratch that, it feels stable enough to release now :)

1) Download this: http://mediahog.co.za/firmwares/MH_MASTER_0.9.7z
2) Extract it with 7-Zip ( Will take about 8gb of space )
3) Download and extract this: http://mediahog.co.za/firmwares/USBIT.7z
4) Run the app included in the second archive, point it at the extracted firmware and tell it to "Restore" to the flashdisk( Has to be 8GB or more, will not work on smaller flashdrives currently ).
5) Put the flashdisk into the microserver's internal port, turn it on and it should boot straight

Should also work on a PC that has an NVIDIA card, I am working on getting ATI drivers working at the moment.

I developed this to work on my N36L microserver, but can confirm that it works 100% on the N40L as well, tested with an NVIDIA GT520 card ( gigabyte )

Please PM me problems, I don't often check this thread :)

Also working on:

-New SuperSport plugin that will initially only be available with this firmware package ( For release when it's 100% stable )
-ATI Compatability
-Auto detection of internal storage ( May or may not work at the moment, ZFS being particularly fun )
-Installing XBMC Eden when released

Hey guys,

Some of you know about the HP MS wiki already (myhtpc.co.za/wiki) - was a cool little idea to put all the info in one place.

I also thought it would be a waste to let such a rad domain name go to waste (myhtpc.co.za), so I've added a little forum specifically for htpc specific stuff. I have only just put it up so there is nothing on there yet, but would like feedback on what you might want to see there regarding the structure and features. When I get some time I will put some polls up, but for now it would be great if you could just register and comment in the suggestions section on what you would like the site to look like.

I hope this isn't against mybb's advertising policy punting a site like this, but I wouldn't think so as its just costing me money :D I have no intentions of making a huge deal out of this and have no time anyway to do too much.

I wouldn't mind having some mods on the site, so ye old faithfuls I will mod thee if thy are worthy :)

I'm selling one of these in the classifieds section for R1100 if anyone is interested. Ram upgraded to 8gb.

How do I get to it? I don't see a forum link or anything.

+REP , thanks for your awesome work :)

Am going to give this a go a little later on my desktop and got an Nvidia card so will post some feedback.

I have 2 externals plugged into my microserver. Both drives are mapped as network drives on my laptops (windows). On rebooting the microserver the name of one external changes from Freecom to disk_. If I unplug the drive and plug it back in the name is once again Freecom.

Is there anyway around this?

Bump. Microserver is xbmc

Let me know how it goes :)

I can also mail you an 8gb flashdisk that I use personally for this by speed services for ~R120, and you can reuse the flashdisk afterwards if you dont like it :)

/facepalm i don't have an 8GB flash yet. If i don't come right, will send ye a PM. :)

Anyone else had a chance to try this out?

It doesn't look so empty now that it has been overrun by the spam bots :D (Click 'Random Page')

Yep, was referring to the forum though. I'm going to remove the wiki page and incorporate a sticky in to the forum. That wiki backend is just too much of a mission to configure and maintain.
