HP ProLiant MicroServer

Can anyone link that site where u can buy a good remote control for use with xbmc?

Barfish, best to use a Logitech Harmony - I got the 300i here: http://www.loot.co.za/product/logitech-harmony-300i-universal-remote/mbhb-1717-g280

Afraid you'll have to look around if you need the 600 or One.

You'll also need a receiver for an HP Microserver. Contact either http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/member.php/15662-mh348, or possibly the Hauppage receiver from takealot.com.

Please note, I make no guarantee about either of these setups. Worst comes to worst, you can manually programme the Harmony.

I just ordered an HP Microserver N40L from Wootware @ R1,754.00. Hopefully I'll have it before Friday.

I chose Wootware because they also had fairly cheap 4GB DDR3 1333MHz modules, compared to like Cybernatic.
I could've ordered from Esquire too (R1500 ex VAT), but Wootware's service is just way better for the general consumer.

So I placed my order (HP Microserver + 8GB of RAM) at Wootware yesterday at 16:00 and they've already dispatched it with the couriers an hour ago!

Wootware always have great service, I have never had any hassles with them.

Well yes, you can manually do it, but if you want all the fanciness you're unfortunately out of luck. A receiver that works with the remote will allow you to set it to an MCE Keyboard and use all the shortcuts, etc.

what sort of shortcuts are you talkiing about?

No, I had to manually programme my 300i (so you can do it like that). I've heard the Hauppauge works, but I can't state that as fact.

I can state it. it works perfectly.

if you want a remote combo then that is definitely the one. I have it and it works flawlessly. it works with my 900 as well.

My wife prefers the hauppauge remote though. Actually a very decent remote if you dont want to get the harmony.

Open Movies, open TV Shows, things like that. Plug a keyboard in and anything you can do on it, you can do on the remote. There are also one or two minor instances (like the onscreen keyboard) that give issues.

... and we're off :D

I have the Harmony 650 and the 700. They both with well with my HPMS.

Last week I grabbed one of these http://www.comx-computers.co.za/PKB...h-Pad-Information-Price-Buy-Cheap-p-60384.php.
Flipping nice keyboard for getting around the PC AND using in Plex.

It also uses 2.4Ghz so no need for line of site which suits me perfectly as I use the HPMS on an HD projector and all the equipment is behind me in the corner.

Nice one, Mike. Is that a touchpad at the top? EDIT: Nevermind, forgot to read properly...

Looks good, only potential problem I can see is no Fast forward or rewind buttons?

Been using one for a few weeks now. Perfect little k/b .
FYI fast forward = F. Rewind = R. Up button skips 3 mins. ( or 10 , cant remember ).
Perfect for file management in windows. One little gripe is that its not backlit. Very few are, but difficult finding some buttons in the dark where normally you would feel your way on a remote.

Just program the remote to recognise xbmc as Microsoft Media Centre, it is now just a case of figuring out what all the buttons do but I'm sure if you get stuck Google will be able to help
