HP ProLiant MicroServer

Hi guys ...

Will this fit in an HP microserver?

http://www.cybernatic.co.za/product_info.php?cPath=170_179&products_id=1223

My company has given me R5,000.00 which he'll EFT for whatever I want - but only one shop. After the the server itself, graphic card, an extra 2GB module and two HDDs ... it leaves me with R312.00 to spend.

Perfect if they had an IR receiver - but they don't. Instead of losing it, I may as well as more RAM or something

Again. You don't need extra ram.

Don't forget hdmi cable.

Maybe if you drop the ram you can get a really small ssd for the OS drive. That will make a difference compared to the ram which won't

I know I don't need it - but read the post :

Company has given me R5,000.00 - the combo is R312.00 less ... so I can spend it on something. I have tons of HDMI cables and don't want to go over the R5,000.00. Perhaps buy RAM and pop it in my home PC or something *shrug*

Yes that RAM will fit, its the exact same module I bought for mine.

Well here's the thing. I run win 7 64 and basically my TV is also being operated as a 3rd PC in my lounge so Linux or anything else is out. I have enabled hardware acceleration and still get the same problem. I am now wondering if the card is not faulty. In which case scrap the whole bring me beer and you can have the card thing as I might just be giving away a dud. The moment I installed a more powerful card my problems were solved.

Yeah seems very weird. I also run Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on my HP. I also run a few other programmes on the HP but 99% of the time it's only Plex. You should maybe try the card out in another PC and see if you get the same problems because as alot of people here will tell you, that card runs flawlessly.

Thanks will do that

Right - final spec is R5,055.00 ... R55.00 over budget ;)

I could replace the GT610 for the GT210 to get under budget - but what's the physical difference?

VGA-610-A1-1024 VGA Point of View GeForce GT610 1GB Graphics Card PCI-E DVI HDMI VGA Retail Box 2 year Limit warranty 359.00

KVR1333D3S8N9/2 MEM Kingston 2.0GB DDR3 1333MHZ Non ECC Desktop Memory Module(PC3-10600 240-Pin 2 Rank DIMM)CL9 Retail Box Limited Lifetime Warranty 99.00

ST2000DM001 HDD Seagate Barracuda 2.0 TB-7200RPM-Serial ATA III (SATA3) Plus - Serial ATA 600 (6Gbps) With 64MB Cache 2 year warranty 859.00

EDIT : Lowering the card to a GT210 and dropping the 2GB RAM lowers the cost by less than R200.00 anyhow .. very small difference

What are you going to run on it, Dolby? If you're going to have a RAID setup, consider going for "green" drives instead. They run a lot cooler than 7200 rpm drives.

... and RAM is so cheap, just get a 4GB module instead.

Looking at getting one of these micro servers. Anyone know if i will be able to stream movies across 100mb LAN to 2 possibly 3 TVs at the same time. I have Samsung TV's with Ethernet & built in media player. Movies being streamed will also be different ones at the same time.

I use laptop and tv at the same time over WiFi

Got my hardware ;)

Looking forward to setting up the card and RAM later!

Hi guys,
Just bought my HP Microserver two days ago. But need to buy a little more RAM to be able to run a hypervisor with a couple of VM's on it. Where would you recommend me purchasing ECC RAM for it in or around Cape Town? Price? (Since I'm on a budget :))

YAY! OpenELEC 2.0 has been released! ;)

Significant changes and highlights in OpenELEC 2.0:

XBMC-11.0 (Eden)
Includes new native high-performance image compression for JPEG and PNG image types. If you previously enabled DDS fanart in advancedsettings.xml it should be removed. You can remove .dds files from the thumbnail image cache. Eden has improved sound card detection. This may change the naming of audio devices available on your system. If audio stops working after the update please adjust audio configuration in XBMC settings to use the updated device names.

PVR Support
We are now including by default PVR support based on XBMC 11.0. These changes include PVR support within the XBMC GUI and include DVB firmware and drivers, TVHeadend, VDR, Njoy N7, MythTV, Mediaportal, HDHomerun and VU+ support in the OS.
Going forward all OpenELEC-2.0 images are PVR ready – the PVR functions can simply be enabled (or disabled) in XBMC settings.

Improved AMD XVBA support
Thanks to the efforts of FernetMenta, Fritsch, Newphreak and many users who have been testing and providing feedback we have native XVBA support that replaces the old VAAPI temporary solution in OpenELEC 1.x. Performance and stability are massively improved.

Automatic Log-File Creation
Accessing the \\OPENELEC\Logfiles SAMBA share automatically creates an archive file that contains essential log-files for troubleshooting.

Automatic framebuffer detection
The previous “hack” to make splash screens work is not more needed.

XBMC now includes native NFS, AFP ,CIFS and SSH share support

Please note: SSH is OFF by default
To improve “out of the box” security SSH is disabled by default. It can be enabled as part of the install process if required. It can be enabled post-install by adding an “ssh_enable” file to the \\OPENELEC\Configfiles SAMBA share and rebooting, or by adding “ssh” to the APPEND line in /flash/extlinux.cfg

Well done OPENELEC, I have been waiting for this as I had issues with the betas. Of course it looks like Frodo will be out shortly...
