HP ProLiant MicroServer

I'm hoping one of you guys can help with some recommendations:
I'm installing full ubuntu 12 on my microserver with XBMC, Sickbeard etc also installed, I'm using the full drive and not partitioning it. Can anyone recommend a program that will make an image of the drive (or some way to copy my exact setup onto other microservers). I've tried the dd method from a live cd but due to the drive size it takes forever. I'm looking for a program that ignores all the empty space so the image would be at most 4-5 GB's. I've also tried remastersys but it seems it's not supported anymore and i can't install the packages. So in short any programs that can make an image that can be used on many machines?
Thanks

I would try something like acronis or clonezilla

As mentioned below, clonezilla can be your best friend!
I use it to clone linux drives normally as it ignores empty blocks unlike standard dd. It still uses dd to clone the drive though which is always very efficient.

Yup. Thinking buntu might be better based on the issues they had with openelec.

Just tried this after a failed upgrade, all I can say is RUN, It took hours with all the updates, (based on 11.11) and then if you want to do somthing like set a static IP or mount drives you have to drop down to buntu to do it. Don't ask about trying to share drives/folders.

Openelec literally took 20 min.

I shall not stray again, slow releases or not.

Ah. I just had flashbacks of time spent hunched in front of the tv.

YAY! OpenELEC 2.0 has been released! ;)

<snip>

PVR Support
We are now including by default PVR support based on XBMC 11.0. These changes include PVR support within the XBMC GUI and include DVB firmware and drivers, TVHeadend, VDR, Njoy N7, MythTV, Mediaportal, HDHomerun and VU+ support in the OS.
Going forward all OpenELEC-2.0 images are PVR ready – the PVR functions can simply be enabled (or disabled) in XBMC settings.

Great. I have been using the PVR build for the past year, and now I can at least use the official release again. So far working great.

I now this may seem as a dumb question and I am sure if I thought long enough I'd be able to get it to work but I thought I'd try my lazy luck a little.

My HP server has been up and running for a while now and all is working great. My only problem is that at the moment I only have one wireless keyboard and mouse which I use on my main PC which is in another room. The problem comes when I want to add new content to my HP server from an external drive - I need to disconnect the K+M from the one PC to the other, copy all the file sever and then disconnect from the server again and connect to the main PC (Im sure you can tell this can get a little tiresome). What would the quickest and easiest way be for me to be able to connect to my main PC and copy the files over to my HP server in the correct folders?

I know the easiest way might be team viewer or maybe filezilla but want to know if there are any other ways. I wont always have internet access on the server so if there is a way to connect over the local network even or something similar?

Why can't you just open a share on the server and copy from your main PC to it?

I can see the server on my main PC and am able to browse through the folders but am not able to copy anything over. Im not sure if there is a setting I am missing maybe? Both the main PC and the server are on the same network (main PC running Windows 8 and server running Windows 7 Ultimate) if that helps?

Probably a permission issue. Write permissions for the folders might need to be set.

My bank account finally decided that I can afford a HP Microserver, got it setup and now I am trying to install openelec. I know the minimal about this program, but everyone is ranting and raving about it. So I decided I want to install it also. But when I try and install it, I get the following error. Please help

It looks as it you installed the wrong build of openelec there ?
I used the generic build 2.0 on mine, and it has been running beautiful (even my Ati gpu is now working 100%)

Having the same issue on my side, many say it is permission related,
I have for the meantime sarted using WinSCP to transfer files as a bypass to the normal copy process.

Yeah. I have used FileZilla but want to use the normal default way instead of using a 3rd party programme (silly I know). Could I not just map the network from my server to my Main PC and copy the files that way?

Ive tried this, tbh havent really tried anything else besides the WinSCP
My HPMS will get a format soon though (feel like it) - will then look and see...

On that note - anyone here purchased some decent 4GB kit's "cheaper" that work with it ? (point me in the right direction peeps !)

Can someone who is using a Point of View GT610 please post what their settings are for audio output on XBMC, I can't find any setting that gives me sound. I'm running HDMI straight from the server to TV, no receivers in between.
