Where can I get a good deal on one of these microservers? Or should I wait till the new year?

From HP shop I can get it for R1699 with my company's BP discount.

That's quite a big oversight on my part. :wtf:

I guess I'll do without on/off via remote. MO at the moment is to switch it on at the source then use xbmc remote for android. Often lose track of the remote for weeks.

In the very least it will be a really expensive IR receiver. I haven't bought one yet for the MS. Wasn't impressed with the 700 for TV. I'll give it a go with the flirc as an ir receiver (i assume i can do this), before selling it to someone here.

Ummmm, wanna test it out first, coz I might donate it to my mum. Does R450 sound right. I've used it twice - literally (and it now sits in a draw).

Why not just use your cellphone as remote for the HTPC?

There's something about physical buttons that gives you so much more control. I find myself staring at the phone when I use it as a remote, or I land up hitting the wrong buttons. And that's on both my tablet come to think about it and my S3 which has a decent size screen...

You're going to have to be a bit more specific. What os you using? What you connected to?

Ubuntu. Internet doesn't work. Everything works fine when connected to the laptop so its not the router or cable.

Just tested the router and cable on the laptop.

Boot off a Live CD (Ubuntu 12.10 or Hiren's 15 with Mini XP). That'll allow you to confirm that your OS isn't just screwed.
If it is a hardware prob, get a PCI NIC. But first Google it to ensure it'll work with Ubuntu. 90% of the time you'll be fine.

2 of my MicroServers where hit by lightening the other day..

On my NAS all the USB & Network ports are dead, the system still powers on, the internal usb still works..
On my XBMC Box Only the Network Port died

Anyone know if a low profile network card will work with xbmc ?

Also if anyone has a secondhand mothboard to sell, let me know..
