HP Switch - bad ?

Ok.

Forget speed if no one can assist.

Any dealers here able to assist on a price?
 
the switch throughput is the amount of traffic the switch can handle between physical ports, in this case 11.9mpps.. this means that between the ports, it can switch 11.9 million packets per seconds.. think of a packet as a grocery bag, and the data you are transferring as your groceries, yourself as the medium between switch ports, and port 1 as the car and port 2 as your house.. you can transfer 11.9 million groceries bags per second from the car to the house..

i hope that is layman enough..?

how this translates into actual network speed is tricky, since packet sizes are different up to a maximum of 64K and this is a theoretical limit..

so looking at our traffic graphing on our network, our devices on average report 53kbps to equate to 1pps.. im not a mathematician, just a humble IT Engineer, but that should give you the throughput of the switch in a usable value..

So, there are 8 gigabit ports - does it mean that all 8 can't do a gigabit at the same time?

I mean I'd never use all at the same time, but curious

If PC A is downloading from PC B and PC C is downloading from PC D and PC E is download from PC F

You should see Gigabit speed on all 3 PC's

It will probably allow maximum transfers on 8 ports simultaneously. All depends on the packet size distribution (application dependent). As long as your average packet size is larger than +/-100 bytes, don't need to worry about.
