I've just applied for a job and heard today it would involve selling of HP switches.

I haven't really been involved in switches - aside from Arista Networks, which I think are more high end - so was wondering if they're much food out there? Anyone using them in their business?

THanks

Out of the game but last time I was involved hp was doing rebranded cisco switches.

Personally I don't think Cisco has the best switches out there, there are better options.

Hi,

Not that popular, and not 'rebranded' cisco switches either. It's HP's own range of switches, similar to Cisco on commands, but cheaper in terms of price. Haven't used them personally yet, but from what I've heard, they perform pretty much on par with Cisco in terms of performance.

I've used a couple of HP 5900 and 5800 switches before. They're not in the league of Cisco or Juniper (which admittedly has a lot of brand hype), but by no means a bad product.

they're great products
only problem is with all the cisco certified engineers out there deciding what products get installed into their networks, you might struggle a bit

work has contract with CompanyA (dont want to say because not sure im allowed to) and as in most Clients that do use there services has either HP switches (normally POE and last time i checked was like 2400 series or close to that). here and there is Cisco's if they can afford them...

but yes there is still market i'd say for HP switches

It is pretty much the old 3com range when you talk about managed switches. Most of the hp switches i have worked with is pretty cool. The main reason people avoid HP networking is that unlike Cisco they can go and sell directly to your client. So you scope the deal HP comes in scr3ws you out of it by under cutting your margins. But HP networking is awesome products and support. This is coming from a Cisco Fan.

Decent product, doesnt compare to cisco though. We have HP Procurves and Cisco Catalyst switches. The HPs have hickups every now and then were as the ciscos just run, all day, all night everyday. I think you definitely get you moneys worth with HP. But yes they are not yet in the league of Cisco or Juniper.

+1

You get what you pay for...
HP is pretty much half the price of Cisco and Juniper
and Dell Switches is half of HP Switch prices.

Still love working with Cisco devices.
