Its at times like this that I want to take a semi-automatic to a government department. Im pretty much fuming on this side.

My wife is a doctor, and we have waited almost a year for the HPCSA to even respond to a query (the current fastest record from them to reply is 6 months). Its pretty similar to service delivery as ICASA, meaning when you phone them, 99 times out of a hundred you get a voice mail and no one phones you back.

We get a message today, informing us we have to pay R3000 by tomorrow lunch time and be in Jozi by the 17th of this month.

My wife also has to do her internship again. This means she has to put off specialization training for 3 fking years. (2 years internship, 1 year zuma year).

I honestly believe the two worst and most useless ANC controlled institutions are ICASA and the HPCSA.

Its pretty much not worth it for a normal doctor to come work in South Africa. The HPCSA and their incompetence turn away a lot of really good talent.

3 years of wifes life must now be wasted.

Is it even worth it to stay? Is moving to another country an option? 3 years!!! What a waste of precious time.

We are honestly looking at other options now, we might continue to go through the motions, but it looks like it might be quicker and cheaper for us to apply to a country like Canada or Sweden. I dunno.

Its not just 3 years... there was the year waiting for the HPCSA as well. So all in all this would have cost us a 4 year set back.

I often wonder what these people think when they get an email / SMS / voicemail asking them e.g. to return a call on such-and-such an issue and then they never do it. What internal dialogue do they have with themselves? Are they just dimwitted and do not understand that they ACTUALLY have to return the message????

Would love to see inside their heads!

Canada and Sweden seem like pretty awesome countries to live in! Very nice lifestyles!

You're also forgetting another important point: Your 3 year estimate is a 'best case scenario'. What if there are more setbacks?

If you and your wife are career driven people then perhaps moving countries is not a bad idea? For your sanities sake too!~

Personally if i were your wife I would feel like I have paid my dues (through all the hardcore studies) and would feel a tad unpatriotic and resentful in having to spend the first 3 years of my career being roped in to 'giving back to the state'...**** it, outta here.

3 years vs the rest of your life, how much do you LOVE south africa? Enough to stay and endure all the ****ed up policies?
Hard choice, good luck to you both ++

We are not worried about giving back to the country. The com year and such we were not worried about. Also, we are not worried about most government policies (generally theyre decent). Whats frustrating is the 3 year delay in specialization. Again, the community service was never an issue, not being able to get further is frustrating.

Canada and Sweden are both welfare states like South Africa, so "giving back to the state" is going to be de facto in those countries anyways. Thing is there, they have people running it who have IQ`s above 80. So you know where you stand, what to learn and what the requirements will be before you start the process.

I can tell you one thing, this country clearly does not want doctors if the HPCSA is anything to go by.

Clearly going the conventional route is too slow, have you considered befriending someone 'on the inside' :D

I've passed this thread URL onto the HPCSA and asked them to reply either by registering and posting a reply or by answering to me and I'll post a reply.

Let's see what they.

I will say 1 thing; NO ONE I know who is in some part or another registered with the HPCSA thinks they are worth anything - the list of complaints never ends sadly.

Would make an entertaining list. I personally would put the SABC at number 1.

Like I've said, whenever I contact the HPCSA (via e-mail) I normally get informative replies - so as far as I'm concerned, they try help, but I've also heard horrible stories about them, constantly - actually, I really honestly don't know 1 person who can say nice stuff about them besides me.

had the same k*k with them last year... didn't get my renewed license even after paying the fee and 1000000000 phone calls later and still nothing...
worst website i have ever had the pleasure to try navigate, don't even know why they are still in charge considering we are always been told that the reason we pay for hpsca is so that they can basically look out for us.

I know its off topic but try getting credits (I passed a degree from the Institute of Marketing management in 2009) out of Unisa towards a Unisa Degree. I am still waiting (15 months now).

You went to IMM pulling wire?
I did a graduate diploma in marketing through the IMM in 1998 and a bachelor of business administration in 2009. The IMM is an Institution and they are the examining body, they however do not provide tuition. I believe this is due to change in the future though.

Oh.. my ... god....

The people at HPCSA are so terrible, they have not noticed that their domain has being dead in the water the entire day! How observant are these people that they dont realize that their mail and website are completely knocked off the internet.

The best is I am speaking to a reception and she tells me to email a proof of payment for a coming up exam. So I tell her that her email is broken, so she says "No its not! I have received email today".. so I offered her R1000 for every email she received from outside of her office... then she realized something was wrong.

This is roughly 15 hours after I realized something was wrong.

This is basically where I stand... my wife needs an examination number, and the only person who can give that is a lady by the name of Thembisile Nkosi... who of the 30 or so times I have phoned over the last 3 days.. I have only being able to reach once. She wanted me to fax the proof of payment through, but their fax machines were broken, so we phoned back, and she gave us her email. That is broken also. So when I finally got through to her, she gave me another fax number, and according to my fax machine the fax was completed. Now I phone back and guess what... no one knows where she is again.

My wife is (we think) on Friday... and we can get nothing out of the HPCSA.... you cant even visit their website. I have spent around R8000 in exam fee`s and accommodation for this exam... and I dont know whats happening.

I fking hate Africa sometimes.

EDIT: I see their site is online again.
