I'm only getting 'WCDMA' in PE with my data card , that I previously used on MTN in my area and got HSDPA.

In April 07 I got download speeds of around 1 MB/s with MTN.

I switched to VC because MTN could not confirm if I would get the 1G free if I bought 1G for R399, so I went with VC 2G for R389.

WCDMA is HSDPA.

How do you see you're getting 'WCDMA'?

Maybe run the speed test on http://speed.vodacom.co.za and post the results.

Thanks for that - Didn't know that WCDMA was HSDPA.
When on MTN my cards connection manager showed HSDPA, so I was expecting the same.
My cards indication LED shows green (WCDMA) whereas on MTN it showed blue (HSDPA).

Download Speed: 366 kbps (45.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 59 kbps (7.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

* Please note the above readings are an indication of your current download and upload speed on the Vodacom network.
* The scale on the meter indicates theoretical maximum download speed for each technology.
* Actual results will vary depending on network load and radio conditions.

o Upload Speeds: Current upload speeds are up to 64Kb/s for 3G and up to 384Kb/s for HSDPA.
o GPRS and Edge uploads are generally 25% of your current download speed due to handset limitations.

Just checking, what make & model of data card or modem are you using along with firmware version?

I note in the cards manual:

WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access): Advanced EDGE that supports 384kbps data flow. Most 3G networks use this standard; aka UMTS.

HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access): Advanced WCDMA
that delivers bandwidth intensive data at up to 7.2Mbps; typically associated with 3.5G.
