HTC 7 Mozart

Care to elaborate a bit on that statement? How is it a beta OS?

Maybe I should have said "missing features at launch date".

-No multitasking
-No Copy/Paste
-No "My Documents" folder on device, difficult to store documents on the phones + custom applications cannot access the files easily
-No custom ringtones
-No external storage support (SD cards)
-No custom app installation allowed
-No scheduled background processes, like downloading podcasts, etc at specific time

There's a few more, but for me they're quite important. For example, I absolutely HATE my iPhone for not having the ability to quickly copy docs that I want to use - I need to email it to a mail account and then there's no place to save it.

But I'm sure Microsoft will get it right next year, for now they're just happy Windows Phone 7 is live.

Yes, you are correct indeed ... it is missing some key features but nothing that can't be fixed in release updates.

Please note, I'm not having a go at your statement Kingrob, it's just that some people tend to shoot down WP7 from the get go, comparing it to Android which is arguably the best mobile OS at the moment. But they are quick to forget that Android was also, as you put it initially, a beta OS when launched. It only became the OS powerhouse it is today after numerous release updates:

1.1 Released 9 February 2009
1.5 (Cupcake)
1.6 (Donut)
2.0 / 2.1 (Eclair)
2.2 (Froyo)
2.3 (Gingerbread)

As you can see, since Android's launch, there have been 5 release updates adding new features and fixing bugs.

I'm sure MS will fix most of these issues via release updates similar to Android. It's confirmed that Copy/Paste is in the pipeline for early 2011 and multitasking late 2011.

The problem is Google is known for releasing updates thick and fast. Whereas Microsoft has been known to sit on something for too long and let it rot.

Agree 100% - and that is going to be the key to WP7's success or failure ...

I'm sure Microsoft will add the missing features next year, cos they have the big dollars....but, so does Google & Apple. We're gonna see innovation & magic in the mobile phone OS arena like never before. And that is great for the consumer/user.

Make no mistake, I do love the Metro UI of Windows Phone 7, looks brilliant & refreshing after using iOS for more than two years....but me thinks Apple is also working on something new.

Any idea when the HD7 or Omnia 7 are coming?

From what I was told, the HTC HD7 and the HTC 7 Pro both have launch dates after Feb 2011 on MTN because of the platform issue.

Speak to Sean at Lab88 - he has a few Mozarts available now before official launch next week. After wrestling with tech-lust I've decided to delay gratification and wait for the HD7.

Do you know if it's even coming??

Any further news on the Mozart? Can't find any information from the networks anymore.

Vodacom has no info on the Mozart and I have not been contacted by MTN again about the Mozart. I don't believe that the HD7 will be out before Feb next year if at all in SA.

I spoke to MTN two weeks ago and the Mozart was still being testing since it failed a network test. Vodacom doesn't even know the phone exist. Vodacom was supposed to get the Trophy in the second week of October, but even that has been removed from everywhere.

I don't know if we will ever get these phone in SA!!

Hopefully January can bring some good news!

Not that I will sign up with them but I see 8.ta has the Mozart listed.

Get a Desire HD & flash it next year with a Windows Phone 7 ROM.

But once you use Android, WP7 will never be able to satisfy. And you dont need the crappy Zune software to sync.

Easy peasy.

Windows Phone 7 does not support the Desire HD's processor so that will not be possible.
That depends on what your needs are. For most people, the iPhone and now Windows Phone experience are more than sufficient.
Please explain how the Zune software is crappy? I've found it to be the best-looking and most functional client for handling all of my music and movies. Zune + WP7 really is easy peasy.

Sorry, I forgot, WP7 only supports older CPUs & graphics. BUMMER.

As for the Zune software - I don't have a Zune! And I will never have a Zune, so why must I use the software? What really irritates me, is that it's so OBVIOUS that it's Microsoft copying Apple with iTunes. Can't they be a bit more original??

HTC Sync is perfect for my needs, just select which folders (movies, music, documents, etc) must be synced and it's done.
