My Moto G (sold today) was 15 months old and I wanted something with 4G, a bigger screen and from a decent brand as a second phone. This will be a beater device; I'll keep the Z3 Compact for more high-end stuff.

The Desire 620 came out last week here. The display is actually pretty nice, with natural colours and wide viewing angles and is fairly sharp at 720p and 5" - slightly lower ppi than either the Moto G or Xperia Z3 Compact but I can't tell the difference if a device is around the 300ppi mark.

Internal specs are somewhat lowly - 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, Snapdragon 410 plus microSD slot, 8MP + 5MP front-facing camera. So it's not going to set any benchmarks alight. Technically it's 64 bit, though, and does have a removable battery, which is good.

Blinkfeed is junk - same with many of HTC's duplicate applications, browser, email client, music player etc.. But I can disable them and will add Apex Launcher Pro.

I haven't tried any music apps on it yet apart from Play Music briefly..but I have SonicMaxPro, Shuttle+, Poweramp and have added a 32GB microSD. I don't expect it to sound different than any other phone. It does have aptX which I will use with my Bluetooth phones.

Edit: I'm liking it a lot - the screen really is very nice for browsing the web and reading ebooks.

I won't disagree with you, as tastes differ, but I actually like BlinkFeed and use it all the time. The only irritation is the inability to remove some of the apps I never use, but I really think HTC did a great job with their app.

No Lollipop? Knowing HTC & updates I would probably have gone for the Moto G 2014 over the Desire. But no LTE...

Lollipop isn't something I actually care about; having had it on my Nexus 7 I reverted to Kitkat.

I may not even update my Xperia Z3 Compact.

you don't use a micro sd card do you?

No - I had a 64GB one in the Sony but never actually used it for anything. I stream everything. And 8GB storage on a phone is plenty for me, the Z3C has 16 but I don't even use more than about 3GB for apps.

Hi Back :)

I'm really enjoying the 620 - obviously it's not as powerful as my Z3 Compact but great for a backup device.

I took a 6 mile walk the other day, GPS running, aptX Bluetooth streaming of Play Music , (highest quality) shot some photos and video, uploaded them straightaway to Drive and Dropbox, and the HTC didn't miss a beat.

The 5" screen is also nice for reading ebooks in bed.

I would love to get my hands on one of these but none of the operators seems to have it on their offerings.

Where did you get yours?

I'm in Scotland. I got it from 3 store, a bit cheaper than your Orange store price, but it is a good phone in that price range. You can get other, better specced phones for the same price, though, but obviously they're not HTC.
