I'm due for an upgrade(with MTN) and I'd like to get one of these, but there is seemingly no stock and no definite ETA.
Anyone have any information on if/when stock will be arriving?

Second option would the Galaxy S, but these seem even more scarce.

If I can't get either of these I might go for the iPhone 4, but only as a last resort. Unless of course there is some closer alternative which I've overlooked.

Lastly, please don't tell me to wait for the Galaxy 2 etc., the above are already major overkill and I'm sure they'd serve me well for the next two years.

I just went to the big MTN shop in Canal Walk, Century City, they had stock of the Desire HD & I picked it up on a MTN Anytime 100 @ R249 a month with no pay-in.

Spoke to someone at the Canal Walk store and they only have stock of the normal Desire.

I then spoke to a lady at their head office who said they should be receiving the Desire HD on Tuesday, so hopefully they'll arrive in Cape Town by the end of next week or early the following week.

i went to my local mtn store about 3 weeks ago and filled out all the paper work to book a lekker desire hd and still waiting for stock but they have the desire in stock lol
been waiting too long lol :(

I just walking into Nashua Mobile (jhb head office) and picked one up.. took me 15 minutes.

Hey guys, does the MTN deal on the desire HD also include data bundles? Can't seem to see any deals with a data bundle on the desire hd on their website :/
And how much data would one need usually? I am just gonna use it to surf the net, view my emails, news and maybe some occasional youtube videos, will 150mb be enough? thx!

Fsck me! That's a good deal. I had to pay 2k in on an Anytime 350...

The Anytime amount can be used for data though I'd buy another data bundle. No wifi? Then you'll need more than 200mb a month.

Hmm so I suppose the R249 pm with anytime 100 includes R100 worth of airtime? And the data tariff is around R2 per mb? In that case, most probably need to take out another data bundle. I do have wifi at work and home, but I am usually out, and there are really no wifi hotspot here unfortunately :/

I guess I will see what vodacom comes up with first then, their new deals are coming out tomor.

Or otherwise the iphone 4 deal is not bad, if it is 150mb per month and not 150mb for 2 yrs for R309 on anytime 100, but somehow I doubt it is pm, and I really want the desire hd :/ Choices choices...

When I saw it on MTN's web site, I just had to go for it.

If you work it out : R249 X 24 = R5976.

I couldn't even buy the Desire HD for that amount cash from Leaf + I get R100 worth of airtime a month = a very happy camper. :)

I'm an average data user. I check Facebook a few times a day, news 24, mybb, about 10 emails a day and some surfing and I used 500mb last month. This phone chows data. Only get it if you are OK with a large data bundle.

If you keep the Friendstream widget running & auto sync Facebook + pull all your Facebook friends into your contact list, Twitter + everything else, you will chow a huge amount of data.

Solution : Set everything to manual and you'll see how the data usage stops immediately.

Also, if you have 4 different mail accounts and your phone must check all the mail servers constantly, you gonna see a lot of data being used.

Solution : Run everything through your Gmail account and get push notification.

alternative solution: at home and university i use wifi, im at home and uni 80% of my time, so thats what i do

i even stream youtube while at uni.

i get by with 75mb for the other 20% of the time

anyone with a high end smart phone knows how they eat data for dinner

It it just me, or is MTN just REALLY unhelpful in general? I know there is a stock shortage of the Desire HD (Apparently HTC are to blame), but just the way they deal with their customers in general? I've been a loyal customer for over 11 years, and every time I want to upgrade, there is just always a stock issue and the staff are uneducated and just plain lazy it seems.

Went to Canal Walk MTN this morning asking for the Desire HD (The one outside Canal Walk by that petrol garage and Tyger Wheel & Tyre) and they informed me they have no stock, none on the system and they can't even give me ANY indication of when they might be receiving stock.

Do I phone every MTN branch on their list, hoping there is stock or does someone know of a branch that has one perhaps?!

Forgive me if I seem harsh, but MTN really needs to get with the program.

Nashua Mobile could tell me then and there how much stock they had country wide. I said yes and they reserved a Desire HD while I waited. I would never go to MTN or Vodacom directly.

I went to the one inside Canal Walk, think that one actually belongs to MTN Service Provider.
