Well, LEAF says the phone should be in SA by end of October! I asked if that means the stores will have it by end of October and they confirmed that it will be!

So I guess I'm pushing my upgrade date back to get this phone.

Anyone else read up on this phone? Your opinions?

Thanks

I've read up on it. I'm due for upgrade in December. Will go for this phone if the price is right.

So if you had a choice, you would have taken the Desire HD? I'm asking as I don't quite know if I should upgrade now to the iPhone 4 or wait for this. The Desire HD does sound amazing!

Don't get me wrong, the iPhone 4 is a beautiful piece of technology, but the flexibility and scalability offered by the Android OS really is something to pev over.

Like many have said before, it really depends on what you want in a phone. Desire HD is unfortunately currently not available, so comparing a phone that does not "exist yet" to the iPhone 4 would rather not be realistic.

I would recommend you wait till Desire comes out and see what people have to say about it first..then make your decision...and by then the iPhone 4 would have been well entrenched within the masses and you'd know exactly if you'd be still interested or not

I've been doing research on the phone, albeit a bit differently. Instead of reading reviews, I've searched for YouTube videos: HTC Desire vs IPhone 4. They're pretty much equal contenders. The only thing that makes iPhone 4 much better is its amazing crystal clear screen. The other area the the iPhone "beats" the Android (HTC) desire is the number of applications. (iPHone has 200 000, Andriod has 50 000). I really don't care about application availability and quantity.

I'm gunning for the HTC Desire HD when I'm due for my upgrade in November. I hope MTN will have it available at similar pricing to the "normal" HTC Desire. (R329 per month on contract).

Howzit guys,

The phone will probably be in the country by mid- to end-October, but by the time MTN releases it on contract, it might be more November-ish. Just sharing what I know (work part-time in sales for Leaf). Not sure about Vodacom...

Honest opinion, having played with the iPhone 4, the screen is wicked, camera's good, but personal preference for me, for software, I'd go for Android. Small things like object push (sending files via Bluetooth) not available on a normal iPhone (not counting jailbroken phones here) kinda irritate me. The interface is brilliant though, and I find the on-screen keyboard a tad more accurate than the Desire's. Desire's camera has more settings to play with though, and seems of similar quality.

Will let you guys know if I hear anything about pricing...

EDIT : The above post was made in a personal capacity, NOT as any type of official message from Leaf S.A.

Sweet, guess I'll wait for the HD. End of Oct is not far away, and I'm a patient man...

Remember, the networks and various retail stores also play a part in the delay. "In the country" doesn't necessarily mean "available to the public".

Well then leaf should do something about Vodacom/MTN always saying its them... in fact - Leaf should do something about their store also saying it hasn't arrive. Whats the point of saying its in the country then? Just so they can? Then they might as well import one model now and say its in the country.

I'm just saying, there's more than one person involved in things like these. I didn't say Leaf uses the term "in the country" to imply anything, I'm just using the OP's post as an example that one can never really know what goes on between the different companies.

Considering its usually HTC phones that have supply issues... it generally starts with the supplier.

Just about every HTC phone I've tried to get has had issues, e.g. Tytn 2, HD2, Desire,

In the country normally means you can buy it cash from lab88

Tried that with both the HD2 and the Desire... even logged a complaint through the HTC website which was assigned to lab88 - which was just ignored.

That's wierd. I know the lab88 at vodaworld had the Desire in stock about two/three weeks before Vodacom released them.

HTC Desire HD to be available from Vodacom in the first week of November and at MTN from the second week of November. Six weeks to wait!!! :(
