HTC DESIRE HD

So, did all the DHD's fall of the edge of the planet? Mine still running strong, so much to brag about, not enough time.

Maybe ppl just realised phone battles are essentially pointless. Got mine a month or so back and it's happiness all the way. ;)

Sent from my Desire HD using MyBroadband Android App

Last night I accidentally clicked on the car panel and it allowed me in, well I tried to go into it some time ago and it said not available in your country. My guess is it probably changed on the last HTC 2.3.3 update.

As per

I was so impressed with the general design of the Route 66 app and was wondering if anybody use that. I see the SA Maps cost $39 for a Perpetual License and allow for you to access the Premium navigation option.

My question is:
Is there anybody that bought the license?
How does it compare to Google Navigation?

Pity the Google navigation option in the Car Panel just crashes to desktop as I would have really liked to use that instead of going into Navigation as the UI is much better.

My Desire HD should be arriving this morning. Sooooo keen to be getting back into android after having an iphone for about a year now.

I'm glad. Is the phone there yet?

I've been using Google navigation for the past few days and it works great. Although I'm always willing to pay for awesome navigation.

w00t! It just arrived, man this screen is MASSIVE! it makes my iphone screen look more like a toy.
Very excited to get started on it and get it rooted as soon as possible.
Thanks Random very sexy phone indeed.

Quick update on the HTC Locations (Route 66 Navigation), I thought I will give it a try and ues the $8, 30 day option to check it out.

Not worth it. The re-routing sucks as it takes ages to figure out that you took a wrong turn and keeps on telling you to make a U-turn. Finding places nearby is on drugs, when selecting petrol it wants me to drive past 5 stations to get to one and when selecting shops nearby it only gave me options for shops in CPT and JHB.

The license is linked to your IMEI so if you swap your phone you will have to buy the license again, got conformation from HTC that they can not transfer it to other phones. If you looking for offline navigation rather go for something like https://market.android.com/details?id=com.alk.copilot.marketplace.af.full that you can at least use on your future upgrades.

Update: Joke is when you bought a license it allows you to use the Google Navigation option in the car panel instead of Premium Navigation, but still uses the HTC Location database for finding places nearby. Only one thing I can say to HTC... What a Rip-off.

I dropped my DHD two months ago, the glass face shattered and it got water damage. Got it replaced under insurance. I'm so happy to have it back. The new one came stock with 2.3, bonus! This phone is incredible! Got my dad one as well. Busy setting it us nicely for him.

My Desire HD had a fatal drop and could not be rescued. :(

So, it's back on my old iPhone 3G and looking at what's out there....and there is a lot!

I've decided to wait now to :

a) hope the Galaxy S2 pricing come down (just insanely expensive at the mo, but a brilliant phone)
b) see what the iPhone 4S/5 will look like (just curious, and iOS5 promises to finally cut the cord with iTunes - hooray!)
c) the Evo 3D. (Will be investing in a Samsung 3D LED TV soon, so..... and there's a lot of love for the Evo 3D on XDA)

*The Motorola Atrix will also be here soon, so might be interesting to see the pricing.

What about insurance?

What about insurance?

For once in my life I decided not to take insurance on my phone & it came back to bite me in the ass.

My iPhone 3G was the backup, so now I'm back in Steve Job's walled garden & it's just terrible. :(

But don't fear, help is near. ;)

Ja, some new toys coming out.

Anyone here into Flashing his HD?
If yes what radio are you using and did you also flash the corresponding RIL?

Reason I am asking is after a week with MIUI on my Desire, my HD is begging for the rom. The only issue is that some people complaining about call quality, something that I am sure can be fixed if you find the right radio and RIL.

I am curently on Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295 you can get the corresponding RIL here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1040986

I need more time to say if I am 100% happy, on day 2 now with no issues or dropped calls and 3G linkup at 7.2

Edit: This was the closest I could get to the Stock version that came with the 2.3 update ie: 12.54.60.25U_25.09.04.11_M2
Oh, If there is a need I can also blog on how to downgrade from 2.3 update with a goldcard. Needed one as I found even if the phone have no Vodacom images it was not unbranded. (Why the hell did they mess with the OS)

Awesome, will try that radio.
Yeah the downgrade was a painful experience, mine is also unbranded but I had to do the whole goldcard thing. I can honestly say I have never battled that much with a phone hack. At least its S-OFF and clockworked now though which makes stuff much easier.

I ordered a new battery - mine lasts under 10 hours with absolutely no use, data off, wifi off, gps off... phone was on my side table.
