I'm keen to get an HTC Desire.

I'm currently on a Vodacom Business Top Up package that gives me R320ish airtime per month and business contract tariffs. I'm happy with this, but HTC Desire doesn't appear to be an option on this contract. I'm due for an upgrade and might move to MTN if they offer a more appealing package, although I'd rather stick with Vodacom.

Is the Anytime 200 contract similar to a top-up contract? Can I use the airtime for data, calls and smses? Can I buy a databundle using the airtime? (I can with my top-up airtime on current Vodacom contract).

Does anyone have any better suggestions of contracts that come with the Desire?

I'm also looking at getting the Desire on a Vodacom contract but can't find a single Vodacom outlet that has stock of them!! Anybody have any "connections"... :-)

What contracts are you considering?

I don't mind waiting for stock, just can't find a contract that appeals. What I like about my business top up contract is that I have enough airtime to buy a data bundle with plenty left for calls and SMSes since I don't use my phone a hell of a lot.

No you can't buy bundles with your airtime on mtn :(
You can only add a bundle onto your contract.

At the moment at Vodacom the HTC Desire is on back order(at Vodaworld and every Vodashop I've called), it was supposed to be in this week. But I've called around a LOT, and its now due next week Tuesday 8th/Wednesday 9th, that's including Vodaworld who usually get things sooner.
I'm getting the Topup 315S contract, instead of paying the R2499 excess on the phone, I'm paying it along side the contract for R124 extra a month. (The non per second 315 contract is R1999 excess or R104 a month extra)
I want to be on Vodacom because from experiences their 3G is just more stable with transfer rates as 3G possibly is these days :(
I want this phone so I've been waiting as patiently as possible!

As far as I know, Vodacom stock only arrives on Friday 4th. I have been waiting three weeks now!

Ehh my bro got his more than 2 weeks ago and the Vodaworld in Sandton.
Stock seems to be a bit all over the place. Best bet is just phone around.

I wouldn't be surprised if all the initial stock is gone though.

I have no choice but to go thru Vodacom Corporate. They handle our account for our company.... :(

IRG, I feel for you! I don't even want to get started, to scared I won't stop.

Long story short, my upgrade date 26/05/2010 Talk500.

Exactly 3 weeks before that date I got ALL my paperwork in order, ordered my phone...everything to the last detail.
5 days before my upgrade the guy I dealt with gave my F phone to someone else and gave me the "First Come First Serve" story. After he had my phone booked for me in store for a week. 2 days before my upgrade I confirmed a time that suite both of us and I hear. "The HTC Desire is on back-order", well i flipped right there.... and guess what that didn't help either because I'm still waiting.

Does anyone know if the HTC Magic is still available somewhere, I've got two upgrades coming up.

Cheers guys, hold thumbs

Yeah thats about as farked up as my story..... My paperwork sat untouched for 3 days at Voadacom Corp, cause the account manager took 3 days study leave, and nobody could access her email... (BS if u ask me). By the time she got back and sorted all the paperwork out, the stock had been sold out!

Yes data at R2/mb. You can't for example convert R80 of it into a 100mb data bundle.

Yeah just went into a shop and confirmed this. I want to stay with Vodacom, but the MTN offer is quite tempting...hmmm.

Yeah would be really nice if you could.
I added on the 100mb/R80 bundle which makes OOB data R0.65 so should be using about 150*0.65 of my included airtime.

That sounds ok, but a R400 phone bill scares me a little. In which case I should probably abandon the HTC Desire...desire.

An acquaintance of mine managed to convince Vodacom to offer him a blackberry on some arb contract with no pay-in by threatening to move to another provider but all I get in response to "mtn's offer is better, so I'll be going there" is "oh. ok." :(

I've asked how he managed it and will post if I have any success.
