the resolution of the screen is 480x800 so i downloaded pics of this size but when i set it as a wallpaper i can only use a portion of the pic, so what res pics can i use to get the full pic set as a wallpaper?

PS, dont be shy! add some good ones here :)

Contrary to the logic you've applied (which is good logic, btw), the screen resolution of an Android Device and the wallpaper that appears on said device are not the same. The size of a wallpaper on a Desire is 960x800 :)

The reason it's so is so that you can scroll between homescreens and have it shift.

Yep, also when you select a wallpaper image you can crop it. I think that by default it is a bit cropped - just drag the crop rectangle outward to cover the whole image

i can crop part of the image but cant set the whole image as my wallpaper. i want to set the full pic as the wallpaper, not a cropped out piece

Yeah, the rectangle keeps it in ratio, else it will end up stretching funny, then your backgrounds will look really really crap.

This really sucks. I have 7 home screens, so my wallpaper is stretched so that each part makes up the 7 screens  I just want one image on my main screen.

ah, no. It doesn't work like that. It has to scroll

i kinda got a fix for this (works for me). look at wallpapers where the main content you want on the screen is in the center. eg, i like my anime wallpapers so i look for one where the face/graphic is in the centre of the pic so i just crop that piece and bobs your uncle.

i really dont know how to explain it. will see if a can attach pics.

EDIT: before, while cropping

You could also just install Launcher Pro and set it to 1 screen, then the default res screens should work? Not tried it yet, but it's a theory...

Apparently ADW launcher and Launcher Pro let you set the wallpaper to be stationary. Both of those are pretty good home replacements...

Launcher Pro does have that function....Just not used it...Launcher Pro is awesome though! Hated it at first, learned how to use it, and am completely off HTC Sense now. Launcher Pro also feels much faster...so from a Ferrari to a light-speed spaceship:-)

How do you change wallpaper in Launcher Pro? I selected a different wallpaper, but home screen still shows DJ Droid default?

I have another problem with the wallpapers.
I made a few in Photoshop that are 960x800, but when i try set them as a wallpaper it still wants me to crop them. Anyone know whats going on??

its always going to ask you to crop them, why not make the resolution small so when you crop it then you can outline the whole pic?

Well i just thought if i make the images 960x800 it would just set it as is. Clearly logic fails Android :p

Yes, it always asks to crop, but if your picture is the correct resolution, you can crop the entire picture, and not cut a single pixel. So it takes 2 steps more, but if you want braindead, get an iPhone...:-P

Problem is, when its cropping i cannot change the aspect ratio of the crop selection. So no matter what picture i try, the crop tool sets it as 1:1 ratio. and as i am sure you know 960x800 is not 1:1.

The only way I can think of that will fix this for me would be to merge the same image 7 times next to each other and set that as my wallpaper. Then each home screen would have the wallpaper.

Good luck trying to do the math behind that one. Might actually be impossible unless you only have 2 homescreens.
