I got my Htc Dream and I got my sim activated today but I dont know where to download apps.
Can anyone help me?
I am especially looking for a program that can switch off programs running in the background.

"Task Manager" does a decent job, but from what I could gather, apps don't have permission to literally kill another process in the normal sense.

If you don't have access to the Android Market, I'm not too sure where you'd get it though :/

Background apps are a big pain on the Dream with its limited RAM :(

Go to leaf.co.za and do the upgrade to the new ROM. Once upgraded you'll have the Android Market and there are apps in there to kill processes. There are thousands of apps in teh Android Market to do almost anything

Android should close seldom used apps once it starts running out of RAM. Then if you need them again it opens them back to their last state...

It does swap them out, but swapping really kills responsiveness. And the way it seems you need 10MB minimum for ANY app that runs on VM just kills the memory off. 10MB for a icon sitting in your notification bar showing battery % is insane! But I guess that's how the VM fits together :(
