HTC Marshmallow update

If you have an M8 from one of the local networks, it might be best to ask them. Or you could ask HTC SA on Facebook, but they might tell you it depends on the networks.

If you're brave, like I was, you can have MM today :P

@mr_norris Any noticeable bugs (particularly with battery life) when moving to MM. Flashed MM on my LG G4 and battery life is terrible

I have a UK phone and just got a notification to update. Will post an update later once it's done to report back.

So I performed the update. Aside from a few cosmetic changes, the biggest difference for me is that the phone is a lot smoother and faster in terms of it's animations. Battery life also seems to have improved though I'll test this throughout the day.

Hi, Ive called the HTC South-Africa office, they do not know when this update will be released. That being said let me clarify. The HTC regional code for South-Africa is HTC_016, meaning its a EU (European) devide ID and subsequent software versioning. The operators have no control over HTC release cycle in RSA. In the past updates from the UK were about one week ahead of RSA. Android 6.0 has been released on Wednesday 20th so at the latest next week Friday I will expect my update. Lollipop in many aspects was a step backwards in usability on M8 compared with Kitkat. Android 6 with sense 7 will bring it again back to software supremacy even compared to later models of competitors. Hope this helps.

Hi guys. It's Monday and M8 update has been seeded to India. Hopefully we are still on track for Friday. If we get it on Wednesday someone will be jumping!

I can't say that I've noticed any difference, besides some visual changes. Battery life and performance seems to be much the same. Performance when it's in Powersaver mode (normal, not extreme) is a lot worse though, I'm hoping it's because MM is handling things a lot more efficiently in terms of scaling down the performance, rather than MM being heavier on the phone.

One m8 marshmallow update is available. Mtn/afrihost

Wtf man?

My Htc M8 didnt receive the update yet.

My handset is from Vodacom but the htc call centre told me that it is unlocked.

Unlocked = non branded/no crappy vodacom logo on startup or crappy vodacom apps.

None of this makes sense to me.How did you receive the update and I didnt?

Is it possible that MTN sells the european/uk model and you received the update faster?

I tried switching flight mode on and checked for an update but it still states update not available.

I hope my phone isnt stuck with 5.0.1 cos lollipop is terrible.

I bought the phone abroad...not sure if that makes any difference. I thought local providers would push the updates regardless of the phones origin. Not entirely sure how it works.

Thanx for the feedback.

HTC makes specific devices for different carriers and regions, even though most of the variants are packed with the same hardware features or specifications. CID and MID: Carrier ID and Model ID respectively, is what helps HTC to identify which particular carrier or region/country the device was made for. This also helps OTA (over the air) software update servers to know which update to push for your device when they become available.

Software update on HTC flagship devices are not “yet” pushed worldwide at once, which means some models receive updates before others. As expected, Google Play Edition devices get updates before those with Sense UI. Developer Editions get those with Sense UI before it gets distributed across regions and carriers. This delay in updates cannot be tolerated sometimes....

My M8 is a MTN handset, and I am still waiting.

Hi, please read my previous posting regarding HTC M8 updates. As stated before South Africa is a region on its own in the HTC World (WWE South-Africa HTC_016) and the software versioning as per regional code will be different as we could see from the previous posting on the software pic that this is not an South-African model. HTC enroll elegible devices on their update servers marked for update. Mine is marked for update. Now that does not mean I am going to receive the update at the same time, that is the frustating part of update rollouts. Even when your handset has been enrolled on the HTC Update Servers, you may have to wait a little while,BUT as far as I know HTC has not YET pushed the update for South Africa. I have predicted that we will have the update last Friday but I put my head on a block it will be pushed by this week Friday, latest. Yes Lollipop has been terrible for me too, but I compare with Samsung Flagship my HTC M8 is a super software optimized smart phone. I cant wait for our turn to get the Android 6 update!

Just got a 3mb update in three parts from Vodacom. Nothing after that

Pushed the button one more time 1.16GB Marshmallow incoming :)
