HTC One X Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update rolling out in SA

Careful - a mate of mine installed this yesterday, and it caused issues:

ICS update f***up my htc
android.core exceptions every minute

he investigated, and there seems to be a workaround

apparently the problem started 1 jan. so not fixed for 2 weeks at least. there is a fix apparently, which i'm going to try. uninstall fb app. remove all contacts. resync contacts from the cloud. dunno why that fixes it, but people have reported success

looks like it might be a problem in android's date handling in the kernel

apparently some guys have checked the stack trace and there is a date 29 feb 2013

possible mistake? or am I reading it wrong?

Samsung Galaxy S3 users in South Africa, for instance, received their update to Android 4.1 from 20 November 2012.

There is another small update after this that fixes the problem.

Wonder when they are going to take the Desrie S to ICS?
It really is a crap phone compared to an S2, even S1.

Will they ever release it as OTA for VC folks?

Maybe in 2015 if youre lucky. :)

I am also using Vodacon, and it works without any problems. No idea why the networks wishes to release their own version of the O/S. Propably just to add their branding and shortcuts/URL's to the phone.

Jeez, been downloading the update since 9am this morning after I bought a 24hr uncapped bundle from MTN, but after 6.5 hours its still only trickling along, currently sitting on 43% downloaded, and I had a constant hsdpa signal ever since I started the download ...

This, in bold, is probably why;

MTN One Day Internet Bundle Rules

After buying the bundle, the customer needs to activate it via MTN Self Service (by calling 141 or dialling *141*6*5*3*1#), for the 24 hour clock to start.
Upon activation of the MTN One Day bundle, the customer’s default billing method will be overridden until the end of the 24 hour period or until the deactivation of this option by the customer.
Access to the internet is unlimited for 24hrs from time of activation however a fair usage limit will apply after 150MB.
MTN One Day internet bundle can be used on any of the currently active price plans (PayAsYouGo, Contract and TopUp).
When the duration has elapsed, the normal flat rates will apply in line with the customer’s last billing method, if no additional internet bundle option is bought.
Customers will be able to access the internet at the best available speeds for the first 150MB. The actual speeds depend on MTN network and the customer’s device capacity and capability.
Once the fair usage limit of 150MB has been reached, customers will be soft capped (rate limited down to 128kbps)

A notification will be sent at start and end of internet bundle access period bolt-on.
A notification will be sent once the customer has reached his Fair Use limit.
Deactivation of this option will be possible via MTN Self Service. Following deactivation it will not possible to reactivate the remainder of the 24 hour bundle.
From date of buying the MTN One Day bundle, customers will have 60 days during which the bundle can be activated. If it has not been activated within this 60 day period, it will expire.
Hybrid and Contract customers will not be able to purchase recurring bundles on MTN Self Service. Recurring bundles will only be available to PayAsYouGo customers.
The One Day Bolt-On internet bundle shall be available for depletion for 60 calendar days, starting from the day it was activated.
Time-based internet access customers shall be able to load as many One Day & volume bundles as possible at any given time.

Got this update from Vodacom:

HTC is currently rolling out the software update to Vodacom customers. The update will also be available at Vodacom Repairs outlets by the end of next week.
