Couple of things:
1. It's not 'better' by any huge stretch in any area, not by enough to make a day-to-day difference
2. The HTC will be the more solid phone - some of us like that
3. Sense is subjectively the best UI available on Android at present - HTC gives it to you stock; the best you can hope for with something else is a cheap knock-off
4. It's a Samsung... :sick:

Upgrade was available since 10 April, and I am waiting for the SGSII.
Since it will arrive when my VC contract actually expires, I might just consider porting to a different network at the same time.

1. Double the battery life, that's a pretty a pretty big day to day difference for me.
2. Each to their own. I have found my 'old' Galaxy S extremely robust.
3. Dunno, never tried it. Using LauncherPro. Love it.
4. Dunno, using it, love it, though they were a bit slow off the mark with Froyo, but they weren't that much behind HTC when all is said and done.

my contract ends at the end of july but i cant extend further due to issues with nashua. any ideas of phones which are or will be availible as many of the major sa phone countries websites dont have much on them

1) Of course the Samsung is better. You'd have to be a special kind of troll to deny that.
2) Solid = heavier = falls harder when dropped.
3) Sense UI is better, so what? Does that make it better than the Samsung? You have to look at both phones overall and in this case, the Samsung is better.

1. You'll note I didn't deny it, I merely said it's not by enough to make up for Samsung's other shortcomings
2. Solid = sturdier = dents the pavement instead of the phone. My Desire's had two mammoth drops, and ended up with two tiny dings
3. Different packages appeal to different people. Specs aren't the be-all and end-all to me, especially not when they're as close as makes no practical difference

I would rather have the heavier, stronger metal phone over a plastic lightweight super slim one that looks like it will break in the pocket of my jeans

My Galaxy S has had a few. No dings :p

Will admit the plastic gets scratched easily, those light scratches that get all over and only show up when the light hits it at certain angles. Can get a cover/skin if you have a problem with that.

2) It won't dent the pavement. Your phone will always come off worse. It's all science :)

Wonder what prices Vodacom will have...

Not too sure about Virgin Mobile though...any thoughts/experiences with them?

That Virgin deal is really sweet. Pity I'm on VC :( Maybe they'll bring out a good deal for us too next week.

Phoned them, asked if they have stock. Said he had to check and will let me know. This was before 11am.

Still waiting... Perhaps he's gone to Taiwan?

Can we have a rating system for Mobile Service Providers on this site? I'm sure they'd all do quite shyte
 
I'm with virginmobile and so far not very pleased. Considering switching to vodacom when my contract expires. Only got the vm contract for the free sms'e, but with whatsapp not even using 150 sms a month. So far had to replace my sim twice because according to vm my sim "expired". And you have to pay for the replacements. As far as 3g or hsdpa goes, only available in jburg, pta and ctown (from my own experience). When not on 3g network the edge is terrible. My experience with them on HTC Desire also not very satisfied. When not in range of cellc/virgin mobile tower the phone thinks i'm on roaming (understandable from the phones side), but when on roaming internet connectivity is even worse. Sometimes not even able to connect to any vodacom site. When I got my phone last year June, i struggled about 4 months trying to get the mms settings from vm. They kept sending me instructions for a windows mobile phone (no use at all). Finally figured it out with help from some myBB members. The free sms's was nice until i realized that even when sending the sms multiple times it sometimes took the sms a day to reach the recipient. This was from vm to a vodacom number. Vm to vm didnt have the problem. My personal advice, avoid virgin mobile if possible.
