HTC Tattoo or Nokia 5800

I'm also faced with similar choices. The payin on my topup315s for the Hero is R2k+!! I was looking at the Satio (payin R1.6k better than hero but still high) as the wife has a 5800 (no payin) and I wanted something with a lower payin and different to 5800 yet familiar as I'm using a nokia 6110 nav now. Tattoo is R360 payin and magic is R740 payin. I wasn't sure about HTC, as a friend had some nasty problems with his WM touch pro, but it seems that the android HTC's are a lot better. I was also leaning towards the tattoo, but noticed that the magic (V32A not B) has same specs as Hero except for the 3.5mm plug and 5MP cam and all are gonna be able to be updated to android 2 apparently. So I'm gonna go for the magic as I can live without the better cam and plug for the price. Also it seems the tattoo doesn't come with a doc reader whereas magic and Hero do. I'm gonna wait for better availability and stock for the new deals in Feb which will hopefully be better.

If you want the Hero, you can ask hem to finance the pay-in over your contract period. Works out to R109 p/m on the top-up 315 package. I was in the same boat, but just did the pay in eventually.

HTC Hero at Cellucity V&A Waterfront:

1) R284 p/m on a business call contract (no free minutes but you get a much cheaper call rate compared to other contracts)
2) The other option is the same tariff but at R185 p/m and then there's a once off pay in of R1959.

Well I have been paying an average of r400 on a r150/month contract :/

Feel your pain there, average of about R500 on a R135 contract as well. Mine's up for renewal, so going to see what would be a better contract.

That's probably enough of the thread jack, though.

R99 per month over 24 months gives you R2376, so you lose R417 but spread the cost over 2 yrs.

Business Call only makes sense if the vast majority of your calls are during peak times.

Topup 315 works well for me. My bill is always the exact same, and I can convert my airtime to data bundles. I make very little calls or even text messages. A lot of my usage has become data based.

Ditto for me.

At least there's no overspend like on weekender and business call and you can always keep track of spend with *100# for free.

I'm trying to keep costs low so I'd prefer something cheaper than R109/month for the phone on top of my R325.I'm hoping for better prices on 7 Feb maybe HTC would have released official android 2 update by that time. BTW does rooting and installing ROMS void the warranty?

I am also looking at the 5800 now as my UG is due next week.

What did you do in the end, Merc?

Hmmm... that has actually now swayed me away from getting the Tattoo. Maybe I should just cough it up and get the Hero.
I've had my Hero for about 3 weeks now. It really is more pleasant to use than 5800. I'm learning more about it daily. I wish for better battery life, but I guess I just play with it way too much :P
