The Touch Diamond2’s large, crisp screen and slick TouchFLO interface make for an excellent mid-range touch-screen phone

HTC’s Touch Diamond2 doesn’t have the trademark bevelled styling of its predecessor, but the improvements the company has made to the hardware make the Diamond2 an excellent phone. The biggest improvement is the large 3.2-inch touch-sensitive display. Text and images are crisp and bright, and with a screen resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, you have lots of real estate to work with.

At the bottom of the screen is a scroll bar that can be used to zoom in and out on whatever you’re viewing. It works in most of the main applications like the picture viewer, Google Maps and Opera browser.

The camera also gets an upgrade from 3.2 to 5.0 megapixels; though, like most of HTC’s phones, the shutter response is laggy, which makes it a bit difficult to capture a subject that isn’t completely stationary. There isn’t a flash either, so shots in lowlight conditions tend not to turn out well. HTC’s TouchFLO interface – which runs on top of Windows Mobile 6.1 – is slick, and responsive. With a simple slide of the thumb, you can access most of the main functions of the phone.

Overall, this is an excellent touch-screen phone. While it isn’t quite in the league of the iPhone or Samsung Omnia, it won’t cost you an arm and a leg either.
