HTC TyTN II (Codename: Kaiser)

I see Incredible Connection also advertised it for R6999 without the prepaid starter pack. Whether they actually have stock is another question.

Maybe I'm missing something but go here:

You can buy the SA map for 50 EURO, but I don't see anything about the actual software? Do you have to buy it separately(where) or does it come with the map?

Thanks

PS.
Could anyone drop me a PM with a link to the "trial" version(torrent or whatever), I'd really like to test it first before I buy.

The Tytn II definitely seems to be an improvement on the Tytn I. What I would like to know is how it performs as a phone. I found the Tytn I to be a great computer, but a lousy phone.

What did you not like about the Tytn1 as a phone?

What did you not like about the Tytn1 as a phone?

1. Very bad reception. My other phone (Nokia N70) on the same cellular network and calling the same landline from the same location was always clearer.
2. The phone occasionally refuses to disconnect a call. When you switch it off and on again, it no longer connects to the network and you have to take out the battery, put it back in and power up to get the phone working properly again.
3. I've had several instances where the phone turns telephony off. I only realise this has occurred when my supervisor calls me on my other phone complaining that I've turned my phone off. Normally just re-enabling telephony resolves this problem, but it is still annoying.

It's not a complete nightmare, but I expected better from the Tytn I.

never had any of the above on my tytn2

That's good news. My comments were with regards to the Tytn I. In my department we have 7 people using the Tytn I. Only one of them is happy with it as a phone. The others have had numerous problems with calls and 2 of them have had the phones repaired/replaced more than once.

Ditto.

PS.
So no advice on my question regarding TomTom on the previous page?

Hack it. :p

Out of boredom this weekend, I finally got Garmin working on my E90, I assume illegally, but I think their licenses are unfair, cause I already have the exact maps on a standalone unit, and now they want me to pay R1000 for the same maps on my E90;

i have no clue about TomTom. I also posted a question about it a while ago but I was unable to figure out where / how to get a hold of the software myself...

If you find out let me know!

Ignore - not what I was looking for. :o

DionWired is R7299

Loads of guys out there quote pricing but loads of them do not carry stock.
i cant compete with the last tom dick and harry on pricing ... One thing i can and will say is none of those guys reselling these devices can compete in offering the level of support and back servicing we can ....

mmmmm ... i wonder what these dudez have done on the software side. it seems as if there is a lag on every other GPS software ( guyz all over the world seem to have the same problem ).. but TomTom seems to be perfectly fine ... the only thing i can think of right now is it has to have been a sweet deal ...

On the whole GPS lag thing. I'm using Handymap on my TyTN II. I have used Handymap on my TyTN I with an external Adapt Bluetooth GPS receiver.

On the TyTN II, using its internal gps, I experience the same 10 second refresh lag that everyone is complaining about. I have tested the TyTN II with my external BT GPS and it works fine. Updates once a second.

Handymap has an incoming data stream view. When I look at this using the external BT GPS, I see 2-4 lines of gps data coming in every second. When I check the stream using the TyTN's internal gps, then basically:
Nothing happens for 10 seconds, and then, a burst of about 20-30 lines of data is spammed all at once. Then nothing again for 10 seconds.

It seems that the internal gps data is being accumulated in some sort of internal buffer. The gps actually does take a reading every second, but then the data of the past 10 seconds' readings are spammed through to Handymap once in 10 seconds.

GPS data is properly time-stamped so the delay in data does not prevent Handymap from measuring speed and heading accurately.

But I agree that it is just completely impossible to navigate on a 10 second delay. I'm using my external GPS with the TyTN II now and I'm desperately hoping that there is some truth to the rumours that Handymap is releasing a version that will fix this :)
